Coliseo De La Ciudad Deportiva
Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva is an indoor sporting arena located in Havana, Cuba. Built in 1957, the Coliseum is one of the most important works of Cuban Civil Engineering. It is located at the intersection of Boyeros and Vía Blanca avenues in the Cerro Municipality. The capacity of the arena is for 15,000 spectators. Architecture The building was designed by Nicolás Arroyo Márquez & Gabriela Menéndez García-Beltrán of the architecture firm Arroyo y Menendez Architects. Construction of the Coliseum began in November 1952. It is a 20,000 m² circular concrete building with an outside diameter of 103.2 meters and is located at the confluence of the Vía Blanca and Avenida de Rancho Boyeros. It is supported by 48 columns distributed in two concentric circles of 24 columns each. The inner circle is 62.8 meters in diameter and the outer 88.30. The Basketball Tournament at the 1995 Pan American Games was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina from March 19 to March 25, 1995. The women's tournament was cancelled because as of March 3, 1995, only four women's teams had signed up to play. All the games were held in Polideportivo Islas Malvinas, which was built for this edition of the Pan American Games. 1991 Pan American Games
The 1991 Pan American Games were held in Havana, Cuba from August 2 to August 18, 1991. There were 4,519 athletes from 39 countries of the PASO community, with events in 33 different sports. The main stadium was the Estadio Panamericano, a multi-use stadium in Havana that holds 50,000 people. Host city election Havana was the only non-withdrawn bid to host the 1991 Pan American Games. At the Pan American Games (ODEPA) Assembly, from November 12 to 14, 1986, in Bridgetown, Barbados, Mar del Plata withdrew its bid, leaving Havana as the winner to host the Games. London, Ontario, Canada also submitted a bid, but withdrew from the bid process due to the federal government prohibiting all funding from any international multi-sport events (aside from the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics). Armando Becker
Armando Becker (born June 9, 1966 in Caracas) is a retired male basketball player from Venezuela, who played as a forward during his career. He competed for the Venezuela national basketball team at the 1990 FIBA World Championship and at the 1991 Pan American Games. Becker played his college basketball at Central Missouri, becoming the only two-time first-team All-American selection in school history. He was also a two-time All- MIAA selection and was named conference MVP in 1990. As a senior, he posted averages of 23.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, leading the Mules to a 27–5 record and a runner-up finish in an NCAA Division II regional. He was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. Basketball at the 1992 Summer Olympics was the thirteenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It included the sport of basketball's men's and women's competitions of the 1992 Summer Olympics. The games were played at the Pavelló Olímpic de Badalona. 12 men's teams and 8 women's teams participated in the tournament. This was the first time that NBA players were eligible to play in Summer Olympics basketball, following a decision of FIBA in April 1989.
