The Basilica of St. James and St. Agnes is a Catholic Church parish church and Basilica Minor, basilica minor in the ''New Town'' area of Nysa, Poland, Nysa, Opole Voivodeship, Poland. Built in the Late Middle Ages, it was the historically the cultural centre of the town and Nysa's largest sacramental building. History There has been a parish church at the site since the first was built between 1195 and 1198 and Consecration, consecrated in 1198 by Jarosław, Duke of Opole and Bishop of Wrocław. The current church was built in two phases. The first stage was built before 1392, when the six-span church was built. The second stage was built between 1424 and 1430, when the chancel and ambulatory were built. St. James's Church was then Nysa's highest building, with its rooftop surpassing other structures in the exceptionally historic part of town. There is a detached bell tower adjacent to the main church building. References

Nysa (german: Neisse or ''Neiße'', szl, Nysa) is a town in southwestern Poland on the Eastern Neisse ( Polish: ''Nysa Kłodzka'') river, situated in the Opole Voivodeship. With 43,849 inhabitants (2019), it is the capital of Nysa County. It comprises the urban portion of the surrounding Gmina Nysa. Historically the town was part of Upper Silesia. History Nysa, one of the oldest towns in Silesia, was probably founded in the 10th century. The name of the Nysa river, from which the town takes its name, was mentioned in 991, when the region formed part of the Duchy of Poland under Mieszko I of Poland. A Polish stronghold was built in Nysa in the 11th and 12th century due to the proximity of the border with the Czech Duchy. As a result of the fragmentation of Poland, it became part of the Duchy of Silesia, and from the 14th century it functioned as the capital of the Duchy of Nysa, administered by the Bishopric of Wrocław.
