Liya Shakirova
Liya Zakirovna Shakirova (russian: Лия Закировна Шакирова; 9 February 1921 – 29 July 2015) was a Soviet and Russian linguist, professor of pedagogical science and teacher-methodologist. She worked at Kazan State Pedagogical Institute from 1948 until her retirement in 2003 and authored approximately 420 scientific articles that included textbooks on Russian language teaching methology, teaching methods and manuals for students and teachers at universities. Shakirova received the Order of Lenin, the Medal "Veteran of Labour" and the Medal "For Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" in her lifetime. Biography On 9 February 1921, Shakirova was born in the Russian city of Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan. She was the daughter of a teacher and a linguist. In Russia, the state provides most education services regulating education through the Ministry of Education and Science. Regional authorities regulate education within their jurisdictions within the prevailing framework of federal laws. Uchaly (russian: Учалы; ba, Учалы) is a town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, in the east of the republic, in the southern Urals, among the lakes of the Uraltau Range. Population: Etymology In the Bashkir language, "Uchaly" ( ba, Үс алды) literally means "revenge". According to a legend, at the end of the 14th century in the place where the modern town now stands Timur fought the Golden Horde Khan Tokhtamysh and slaughtered the nomadic South Ural Bashkirs who were Tokhtamysh's supporters. Another theory postulates that the town is named for the nearby lakes: Bolshiye Uchaly and Malye Uchaly. Several theories exist about the origins of the lakes' names as well.
