Barton is a town in southwestern Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 8,570 at the 2020 census. It is southeast of Elmira. History The Sullivan Expedition of 1779 passed through this region. The first settlers arrived ''circa'' 1791. The Town of Barton was established in 1824 from the town of Tioga. Barton is a town in Allegany County, Maryland, United States, located along the Georges Creek Valley. It is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 457 at the 2010 census. History The Reverend William Shaw, a Methodist minister settled on the site of Barton in 1794. His son, William Shaw Jr. laid out the town in 1853, naming it for his father's hometown, Barton-upon-Humber, England. The discovery of coal in the area attracted more settlers. They came from Scotland, Ireland and Germany, eager to work in the mines. In 1853, the first shipment of coal was made on the newly built Georges Creek Railroad. San Bernardino National Forest
The San Bernardino National Forest is a United States National Forest in Southern California encompassing of which are federal. The forest is made up of two main divisions, the eastern portion of the San Gabriel Mountains and the San Bernardino Mountains on the easternmost of the Transverse Ranges, and the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains on the northernmost of the Peninsular Ranges. Elevations range from 2,000 to 11,499 feet (600 to 3505 m). Barton Flats is a recreation area located in the San Bernardino National Forest near San Gorgonio Mountain. The nearest major town is Big Bear Lake, California. A fire began at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday the 17th of June, 2015 behind Camp de Benneville Pines in the Jenks Lake area of Barton Flats. The cause is still unknown. The flames traveled east and southeast, blackening heavily forested mountainsides that haven't burned in over a century. Barton, also known as Barton Station, Barton Depot, or Barton's, is an unincorporated community located in western Colbert County, Alabama, United States.
