Barbara Baert
Barbara Baert (born 1967,Turnhout) is a Belgian art historian, and professor of art history at KU Leuven. Career Barbara Baert teaches in the fields of iconology, art theory and analysis, and medieval art. She is the founder of the Iconology Research Group, an international and interdisciplinary platform for the study of the interpretation of images. Baert is a fellow at Illuminare – Centre for the Study of Medieval Art (KU Leuven). In 1997, Baert obtained a doctoral degree with her research on the True Cross, later published in English under the title ''A Heritage of Holy Wood: The Legend of the True Cross in Text and Image.'' Turnhout, Antwerp
Turnhout () is a Belgian municipality and city located in the Flemish province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises only the city of Turnhout proper. In 2021, Turnhout had a total population of 45,874. The total area is . The agglomeration, however, is much larger, accounting up to 81,473 inhabitants. Turnhout is known for its playing card industry, as it houses the head office of the world's largest manufacturer of playing cards, Cartamundi. Turnhout is also the capital of the administrative district with the same name. The Turnhout city council often promotes the city as "the capital of the Kempen area". The Order of Leopold ( nl, Leopoldsorde, french: Ordre de Léopold, ) is one of the three current Belgian national honorary orders of knighthood. It is the oldest and highest order of Belgium and is named in honour of its founder, King Leopold I. It consists of a military, a maritime and a civil division. Avinoam Shalem
Avinoam Shalem (born 1959) is the Riggio Professor of the History of the Arts of Islam at Columbia University. He served as director of the American Academy in Rome from 2020 to 2021. Biography Shalem was born in Haifa, Israel in 1959. He received his B.A. from the University of Tel Aviv, M.A. from the University of Munich before earning a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 1995. He worked for the Khalili Collections and taught at the University of Munich prior to joining the Columbia faculty in 2013. He was also a visiting professor at Villa I Tatti, and guest professor at Clark Art Institute and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Shalem's research focuses on medieval Islamic, as well as Jewish and Christian art. In 2020, he was appointed 24th Director of the American Academy in Rome, where he was a 2016 resident. Catrien Santing
Catharina Geertruida Santing (born 1958), commonly going by Catrien Santing is a Dutch medievalist. Her research focuses on cultural history and medical history in the late-medieval and early-modern Low Countries. Career Santing studied History and Art History at the University of Groningen, and worked as a lecturer in the same institution. She obtained her doctorate in 1992 with a thesis on the Renaissance physician Theodericus Ulsenius. She has since 2009 been full professor of Medieval History in Groningen. The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), located in Princeton, New Jersey, in the United States, is an independent center for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry. It has served as the academic home of internationally preeminent scholars, including J.
