Bangladesh Medical College (BMC), established in 1986, is the oldest private medical college as well as the oldest private institute for tertiary education in Bangladesh. The college is located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. It is affiliated with University of Dhaka as a constituent college. It offers a five-year course of study leading to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. A one-year internship after graduation is compulsory for all graduates. Dhaka University
The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University, or DU) is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the oldest university in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, a medical school is known as a medical college. Allopathic and Alternative Medicine related medical education at the graduate level are provided by medical colleges. The colleges are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and are affiliated with a university in the respective region. They however have to be recognized after meeting a set criterion by a central regulatory authority called Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). 1986, all the medical colleges were established by the government.
