Bangladesh Civil Service ( bn, বাংলাদেশ সিভিল সার্ভিস ), more popularly known by its acronym BCS, is the civil service of Bangladesh. Civil service in the Indian subcontinent originated from the Imperial Civil Service which was the elite higher civil service of the British Empire in India during British rule in the period between 1858 and 1947. After the partition of 1947, East Bengal became a province of Pakistan, so it was Central Superior Services of Pakistan which later after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 became known as Bangladesh Civil Service. Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) is the main policy setting and recruitment body of BCS. BCS has 26 cadres. In the parliamentary democracy of Bangladesh, the ultimate responsibility for running the administration rests with the elected representatives of the people which are the ministers. The Bangladesh Order of Precedence , officially known as Warrant of Precedence, is a symbolic hierarchy that lays down the relative precedence in terms of ranks of important functionaries belonging to the executive, legislative and judicial organs of the state, including members of the foreign diplomatic corps. It is to be noted that the Warrant of Precedence was challenged by a writ petition. On November 10, 2016, the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court issued a full judgment on the writ of Warrant of Precedence. Though the Government has filed a review petition, the Appellate Division did not stay the execution of the judgment. Kamal Uddin Siddiqui
Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, is a Bangladeshi economist and social scientist. He is faculty member of Monash University, In 1971, he participated in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. A career civil servant, he served as the principal secretary to the Prime Minister Khaleda Zia until 2006. Akbar Ali Khan (economist)
Akbar Ali Khan (1944 – 8 September 2022) was a Bangladeshi economist and educationist who served as a bureaucrat until 2001. He was a sub-divisional officer of Habiganj during the Bangladesh Liberation War when he decided to join the war. Later he served as an official of the Mujibnagar Government. After independence, he rejoined the civil service and reached the highest post of Cabinet Secretary. In the meanwhile, he also worked as a university teacher. Mujibul Huq
Mujibul Huq was a Bangladesh civil servant and recipient of the Independence Day Award of Bangladesh. Early life Huq was born in Banaripara, Barisal. He studied in Dhaka University and was involved in the Language Movement of 1952. He taught in University of Dhaka for a while. Career Huq joined the Pakistan civil service in 1954. Mohammad Mahbubuzzaman was a Bangladeshi bureaucrat, Cabinet Secretary, and government minister. Abdul Momen Khan
Abdul Momen Khan (1 October 1919 – 12 December 1984) was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician. Education and career While a student, Khan was elected the first Speaker of the Students Union of the newly founded Fazlul Huq Hall of the University of Dhaka. He completed his Bachelor's with Honours and then Master's in Economics from the University of Dhaka in 1941 and joined as a faculty member at the Calcutta Government Commercial College in 1942. SM Shafiul Azam (1923–4 December 1991) was a Pakistani and Bangladeshi civil servant. Biography Azam graduated with a degree in Law and English from the University of Dhaka. From 1948 to 1949, Azam taught English literature at Dhaka College. He successfully stood for the Central Superior Services of Pakistan. Hossain Toufique Imam (15 January 1939 – 4 March 2021) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and political advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.
