Baltasar Lopes
Baltasar Lopes da Silva ( Caleijão, São Nicolau, 23 April 1907 - Lisbon, Portugal, 28 May 1989) was a writer, poet and linguist from Cape Verde, who wrote in both Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole. With Manuel Lopes and Jorge Barbosa, he was the founder of '' Claridade''. In 1947 he published '' Chiquinho'', considered the greatest Cape Verdean novel and '' O dialecto crioulo de Cabo Verde'' which describes different dialects of creoles of Cape Verde. He sometimes wrote under the pseudonym Osvaldo Alcântara. ''Ressaca'', his work of poems can be found on the CD ''Poesia de Cabo Verde e Sete Poemas de Sebastião da Gama'' by Afonso Dias. Daniel Damásio Ascensão Filipe (December 11, 1925 in Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde - April 6, 1964) was a Cape Verdean poet and journalist. He was born in the island of Boa Vista in 1926. He went to Portugal when he was a child and later gratuded at the Curso Geral dos Liceus. He studied at lyceums in Portugal and later as a co-director in the work ''Notícias do Bloqueio'' (''Bloc News''), collaborated with the review and realized by the Emissora National on the literary program ''Távola Redonda'' (''Voice of the Emperor'') and the journal ''Diário Ilustrado'' (1956-). Francisco José Tenreiro (20 January 1921 – 1963) was a São Toméan geographer and poet who lived during the colonial era. He was taught at the Overseas Political and Social Sciences Institute, now known as the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas (ISCSP, High Science and Politics Institute) of the University of Lisbon. António Aurélio Gonçalves
António Aurélio Gonçalves, better known as Nhô Roque (25 September 1901 – 30 September 1984), was a Cape Verdean writer, critic, historian and professor. Life Gonçalves was born in the city of Mindelo, capital of the island of São Vicente. He was the son of Roque da Silva Gonçalves. He was absent from the island for 22 years after he headed to the imperial capital of Lisbon in 1917 after his high-school studies at the seminary on the island of São Nicolau. He attended the University of Lisbon where he studied medicine for two years. Later, he studied Fine Arts, history and philosophy. In 1938, he published a dissertation on irony in the work by Eça de Queiroz. He returned to his native island in early 1939. Manuel Ferreira (18 July 1917 – 17 March 1992) was a Portuguese writer that became known for his work which was centered around african culture and literature. Biography He took commerce and pharmaceutic courses at the lyceums. He graduated in Social Sciences at the Technical University of Lisbon. During his military service, he was mobilized on an expeditionary journey to Cape Verde, in 1941, he was stationed there for six years until 1947.
