Bagulin, La Union
Bagulin, officially the Municipality of Bagulin ( ilo, Ili ti Bagulin; fil, Bayan ng Bagulin), is a 5th class municipality in the province of La Union, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 14,428 people. Etymology Tradition reveals that Bagulin derived its name from a Kankanaey tribal leader. In the middle of the 18th century, the municipality is part of the township of Allabok which covers the moderate slopes of the mountain ranges overlooking the China Sea. During those times, tribal wars were prevalent. Allabok involved itself in a tribal war headed by Bagulin who led the community to victory. From then on until his death, people highly regarded him as their noble leader. After his death, consensus with the residents together with the concurrence of Spanish authorities resulted in naming the community after Bagulin. Naguilian, officially the Municipality of Naguilian ( ilo, Ili ti Naguilian; fil, Bayan ng Naguilian), is a 1st class municipality in the province of La Union, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 52,189 people. Naguilian is from Baguio via the Naguilian Road, from the provincial capital, San Fernando, and from Manila. History Originally a part of Bauang in the province of Pangasinan, Naguilian derived its name from the Iloko phrase “Nag-ili-an dagiti gan-ganaet” meaning “a place where people from other places come to stay”. Kankanaey People
The Kankanaey people are an Indigenous peoples of the Northern Philippines. They are part of the collective group of indigenous people known as the Igorot people. Demographics The Kankanaey live in western Mountain Province, northern Benguet, northeastern La Union and southeastern Ilocos Sur. The Kankanaey of the western Mountain Province are sometimes identified as Applai or Aplai. Because of the differences in culture from the Kankanaey of Benguet, the "Applai" have been accredited as a separate tribe. The 2010 Philippines census counted 362,833 self-identifying Kankanaey and 67,763 self-identifying Applai.
