Bad girl art is a superheroine artwork style trend that emerged during the 1990s. History The term "bad girl art" was coined in the 1990s as an allusion – and contrast – to the " good girl art" movement that started in the 1940s, and is used to refer to the trend of femme fatale heroines that started in the early 1990s. The "bad girl" art trend was derived from the exaggerated visual styles of the male and female form first used in the late 80s by artists such as Rob Liefeld and Jim Lee. The precursors to the trend were Vampirella, created by publisher James Warren in 1969, and Marvel Comics' Elektra, created by Frank Miller in 1981. Lady Death
Lady Death is a fictional goddess appearing in American comic books published by Coffin Comics. Created by Brian Pulido, Lady Death first appeared in ''Evil Ernie'' #1 in December 1991. Lady Death then reappeared in the ''Evil Ernie: The Resurrection'' miniseries published by Pulido under his now-defunct company Chaos! Comics in 1994. The character was also the subject of a full-length animated feature film released in July 2004 by ADV Films. Incarnations of the character have been illustrated by such comic book artists as Steven Hughes, Mike Deodato, Jr., Romano Molenaar, Dheeraj Verma and Ivan Reis. Shi (Ana Ishikawa) is a fictional comic book character created by writer/illustrator William Tucci. She first appeared in ''Razor Annual'' #1 (1993) and has appeared in numerous books by various publishers ever since, most notably Tucci's own Crusade Comics and the Image Universe. Shi is a young woman of Japanese and American descent trained as a '' sohei'' warrior monk, who struggles to reconcile her Japanese grandfather's martial training with her American mother's Christian teachings. A pin-up model (known as a pin-up girl for a female and less commonly male pin-up for a male) is a model whose mass-produced pictures see widespread appeal as part of popular culture. Pin-up models were variously glamour models, fashion models, or actresses whose pictures were intended for informal display, i.e. meant to be "''pinned-up''" on a wall, which is the basis for the etymology of the phrase. Girls with guns is a subgenre of action films and animation that portray a female protagonist engaged in shootouts. The genre typically involves gun-play, stunts and martial arts action. Cinema The 1985 Hong Kong film ''Yes, Madam'', directed by Corey Yuen and starring Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock, was described by Lisa Funnel as the first "girls with guns" film.
