Bad Doberan (district)
Bad Doberan () is a former district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was named after its largest town, Bad Doberan, the German ''Bad'' meaning ''spa''. The district surrounded the City of Rostock, bordering the Baltic Sea in the north as well as the former districts of Nordvorpommern, Güstrow (district), Güstrow and Nordwestmecklenburg. The district was disbanded at the district reform of September 2011. Its territory has been part of the Rostock (district), district of Rostock since. History Before 500 AD Germanic peoples, East Germanic tribes dominated the area, who later on emigrated to the west. The then very rural region was thereafter scarcely populated by Slavic peoples until the 12th century. Remains of a Slavic castle can be found in the town of Rerik (which still bears a Slavic name). Bad Doberan
Bad Doberan () is a town in the district of Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It was the capital of the former district of Bad Doberan. In 2012, its population was 11,427. Geography Bad Doberan is situated just west of Rostock's city centre and is therefore part of one of the most developed regions in the north-eastern part of Germany. The town nestles between beautiful beech tree forests just 6 km from the Baltic Sea and is one of the earliest German settlements in Mecklenburg. Today the town is a very popular bathing resort, thanks to Heiligendamm, a district of Bad Doberan situated directly at the cliff line of the Baltic. Bartenshagen-Parkentin is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Geography The municipality comprises the villages of Bartenshagen, Parkentin, Huetten, Neuhof and Bollbruecke. Bartenshagen-Parkentin lies between Bad Doberan and the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The municipality has two parts: Bartenshagen lies on the slightly raised area of basal moraine of Haegerort approximately 7 km from the Baltic See. Sanitz is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Geography Sanitz is located approximately 15 km (9 miles) east of Rostock. Graal-Müritz is a ''Seeheilbad'' (seaside health resort) in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is located in the Rostock district, near Rostock, Ribnitz-Damgarten and Stralsund. Kühlungsborn
Kühlungsborn () is a ''Seebad'' (seaside resort) town in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is situated on the Baltic Sea coast, 11 km northwest of Bad Doberan, and 25 km northwest of Rostock. The town has an elongate beach and promenade, many hotels in typical German spa town architecture and a marina. It is the largest seaside spa town in Mecklenburg.
