Bus Stop (TV Series)
''Bus Stop'' is a 26-episode American drama which aired on ABC from October 1, 1961, until March 25, 1962, starring Marilyn Maxwell as Grace Sherwood, the owner of a bus station and diner in the fictitious town of Sunrise in the Colorado Rockies. The program was adapted from William Inge's play, ''Bus Stop'', and Inge was a script consultant for the series, which followed the lives of travelers passing through the bus station and the diner. Maxwell's co-stars were Richard Anderson as District Attorney Glenn Wagner, Rhodes Reason as Sheriff Will Mayberry, Joan Freeman as waitress Elma Gahrigner, Bernard Kates as Ralph the coroner, and Buddy Ebsen as Virge Blessing. Increasingly, as it became difficult to have guest stars be characters arriving by bus every week, the stories became more about people in the town which left little for Maxwell's character to do and led to her leaving the series after 13 episodes. Marilyn Maxwell
Marvel Marilyn Maxwell (August 3, 1921 – March 20, 1972) was an American actress and entertainer. In a career that spanned the 1940s and 1950s, she appeared in several films and radio programs, and entertained the troops during World War II and the Korean War on USO tours with Bob Hope. Early years Maxwell was a native of Clarinda, Iowa. During the 1930s, she worked as an usher in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Rialto Theater located at 2616 South Calhoun Street. In Fort Wayne, she attended Central High School. She dropped out of school in her sophomore year to join an Indianapolis band as a singer. Career She started her professional entertaining career as a radio singer and a singer on stage with Ted Weems' big band while still a teenager. She moved to Hollywood after being with the Pasadena Playhouse and signed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1942 as a contract player. Fabian Anthony Forte (born February 6, 1943), professionally known as Fabian, is an American singer and actor. Forte rose to national prominence after performing several times on ''American Bandstand''. He became a teen idol of the late 1950s and early 1960s. "A Lion Walks Among Us" is a 1961 episode of the TV drama series ''Bus Stop'', with guest star Fabian Forte, which was highly controversial because of its depiction of violence. It was an early work of director Robert Altman. Plot The District Attorney's wife, Sally, picks up hitchhiker Luke Freeman on the way to Sunrise, Colorado. He makes a play for her but she kicks him out of the car. Luke then robs a grocery store, killing the grocer, Mr Jordan, by throwing him against a table then shooting him dead. After doing this, Luke sings a song to himself, "I Couldn't Hear Nobody Pray". Bernard Kates
Bernard Kates (December 26, 1922 – February 2, 2010) was an American actor on television, in movies and on the stage. Staff Sergeant Kates served as a Waist Gunner on a B-17G with the 336th Bomb Squadron, 95th Bomb Group (H), 8th United States AAF during World War II, Kates earned an Air Medal with three clusters and a Distinguished Flying Cross. A life member of The Actors Studio, Kates's film appearances include ''Judgment at Nuremberg'' (as Max Perkins), ''The Babe'', and ''The Phantom''. One of his many television roles was as Sigmund Freud in the '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'' episode " Phantasms".
