Burt Mustin
Burton Hill Mustin (February 8, 1884 – January 28, 1977) was an American character actorObituary '' Variety'', February 2, 1977, page 94. who appeared in over 150 film and television productions. He also worked in radio and appeared on the stage. Mustin began his professional acting career at the age of 67 when he appeared in '' The Last Outpost'', released April 1951 and then director William Wyler cast him in the 1951 film noir ''Detective Story'', released November 1951. Known for his dependability and versatility, Mustin established a career as a well-known character actor and worked extensively in film and television from the 1950s to the 1970s. His last major role was as Arthur Lanson on the CBS sitcom '' Phyllis'', appearing on the show until shortly before his death in early 1977 at the age of 92. ''The Funny Side'' is an American sketch comedy program that aired on NBC as part of its 1971 fall lineup. Synopsis ''The Funny Side'' was hosted by Gene Kelly and starred five pairs of actors and actresses who were presented as married couples. Each week was an examination of the "funny side" of a potential issue in real-life marriages, such as health, money, sex, and the like. Each couple was a stereotype. The Franklin Automobile Company was an American automobile manufacturer between 1902 and 1934 in Syracuse, New York. Herbert H. Franklin, the founder, began his career in the metal die casting business before establishing his automobile enterprise. Controlled by Herbert H. The Sombrero Playhouse was a regional theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. It was built in March 1949, the first legitimate professional theater in Phoenix, though the city did have a long tradition of Little Theater. Major Broadway and Hollywood stars of the time performed on stage at the Sombrero, including Katharine Cornell, Helen Hayes, Kirk Douglas, Milton Berle, Billie Burke, Burgess Meredith, Walter Pidgeon, Tom Drake, Vincent Price, and Mary Astor. Despite its limited capacity, it was one of the most widely-known regional theaters in the Western United States during the 1950s and early 1960s. ''Detective Story'' is a 1949 play in three acts by American playwright Sidney Kingsley. The play opened on Broadway at the Hudson Theatre on March 23, 1949 where it played until the production moved to the Broadhurst Theatre on July 3, 1950. The production closed on August 12, 1950 after 581 performances. The cast notably included Lydia Clarke who won a Theatre World Award for her performance. Other cast members included Ralph Bellamy as Detective Jim McLeod, Meg Mundy as Mary McLeod, James Westerfield as Detective Lou Brody, Joan Copeland as Susan Carmichael, Harry Worth as Dr. Kurt Schneider, and Maureen Stapleton as Miss Hatch.
