British Army Infantry
The Infantry of the British Army comprises 49 infantry battalions, from 19 regiments. Of these, 33 battalions are part of the Regular army and the remaining 16 a part of the Army Reserve. The British Army's Infantry takes on a variety of roles, including armoured, mechanised, air assault and light. Recruitment and training Recruitment Traditionally, regiments that form the combat arms of the British Army (cavalry and infantry) recruit from specific areas of the country. Infantry regiments had been assigned specific areas from which they would recruit from by the mid eighteenth century. These were formalised under the Cardwell Reforms that began in the 1860s. Under this scheme, single battalion infantry regiments were amalgamated into two battalion regiments, then assigned to a depot and associated recruiting area (which would usually correspond to all or part of a county). Warminster
Warminster () is a historic market town and Civil parishes in England, civil parish in south-west Wiltshire, England, on the western edge of Salisbury Plain. The parish had a population of 18,173 in 2021. The name ''Warminster'' occurs first in the early 10th century and the St Denys' Church, Warminster, Minster Church of St Denys was begun in the 11th century. British Army Reserve Training Locations include four Army Training Unit (ATU) sites and two other locations where the Army Reserve (United Kingdom), Army Reserve Phase One Training courses are delivered. Reserve recruits are first selected at an Army Assessment Centre, before progressing onto Phase One Basic Training. Infantry Battle School
The Infantry Battle School, Brecon is a British Army training establishment at Dering Lines in Brecon, Wales. History The Infantry Battle School was established at Brecon in 1939, at the start of the Second World War. The Parachute Regiment formed a battle camp there in 1961, which was absorbed by the Tactical Training Wing of the School of Infantry in 1976. The school was further redeveloped in 1995. Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS or RMA Sandhurst), commonly known simply as Sandhurst, is one of several military academy, military academies of the United Kingdom and is the British Army's initial Commissioned officer, officer training centre. It is located in the town of Sandhurst, Berkshire, though its ceremonial entrance is in Camberley, Surrey, southwest of London. The academy's stated aim is to be "the national centre of excellence for leadership". Infantry Training Centre (British Army)
The Infantry Training Centre (ITC) is a unit of the British Army, administered by HQ School of Infantry and responsible for the basic training and advanced training of soldiers and officers joining the infantry. The unit's headquarters are at Catterick, North Yorkshire. History ITC Catterick assumed overall responsibility for all infantry phase 2 training from the three Infantry Training Battalion sites at Catterick, Strensall and Ouston on 1 May 1995.
