Brian Head, Utah
Brian Head is a town in Iron County, Utah, United States. The population was 83 at the 2010 census, a significant decrease from the 2000 figure of 118. Brian Head is also the location of the Brian Head Ski Resort. History The community was originally called "Monument Peak," but was changed to the current name after 1900 for reasons no longer known, although probably related to the name of (or renaming to) Brian Head (mountain), in nearby Dixie National Forest. In 1964, the Brian Head Resort opened. Brian Head (mountain)
Brian Head, at high, is the highest peak on the Markagunt Plateau and in Iron County in southwestern Utah, United States. Brian Head Peak is located east of Cedar City and just north of Cedar Breaks National Monument in Dixie National Forest. The town of Brian Head at the western base of the mountain is the location of the Brian Head Ski Resort. Brian Head has the name of a government surveyor. There is a Forest Service lookout on the peak that was built in 1934–1935, and there is also a road to the summit that can be driven in summer. Brian Head Ski Resort is a ski destination for Southern Utah and the southern California, Arizona, and Las Vegas areas. Located 3.5 hours north of Las Vegas and four hours south of Salt Lake City, it is Utah's southernmost ski resort. Brian Head Resort was established in 1964, and once operated as a one-chairlift resort. Currently, the resort has 8 chairlifts, 71 runs, and over 650 skiable acres. It also features a bridge between its two skiable mountains, Navajo Peak and Brian Head. Mountain Capital Partners acquired Brian Head in 2019. Brian Head (composer)
Brian Head (born October 14, 1964) is an American composer, guitarist, and music theory and composition professor. He performs frequently as a soloist and collaboratively with numerous groups, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera, New World Symphony, inauthentica, Jacaranda and Xtet. His compositions have been widely performed throughout the U.S. and abroad. Brian Head holds an unusual dual appointment at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where he is a member of both the Classical Guitar and the Composition faculties, positions he has held since 2001. He maintains an active guitar studio there, lectures on a wide range of subjects, and directs the music theory program. Cultural Cringe
In the fields of cultural studies and social anthropology, cultural cringe is an expression used to refer to an internalized inferiority complex where people dismiss their own culture as inferior (''cringe-inducing)'' when compared to the cultures of other countries. In anthropology, cultural cringe is related to the concept of the colonial mentality (belief of inferiority), and usually is manifested in the anti-intellectualism deployed against intellectuals, scientists, and artists native to a colonized country or a former colony. Moreover, at the personal level, cultural cringe also is manifested as cultural alienation.
