Breandán Mac Cnáimhsí
Breandán Mac Cnáimhsí ( Gort an Choirce, County Donegal, 9 May 1921 – 2 October 2011), Irish newsreader and translator. He was educated at Coláiste Caomhín in Glasnevin, Dublin. He graduated as a schoolteacher. One of his school pupils was Dickie Rock. In the 1950s he joined Radio Éireann as Irish-language newsreader. A decade later he joined Telefís Éireann. He joined the Oireachtas translation staff. In 1972, he was a member of the team from the Translation Department (Rannóg an Aistriúcháin) that was sent to Brussels to translate into Irish the treaties establishing the European Communities. Gort An Choirce
''Gort an Choirce'' or ''Gort a' Choirce'' (; meaning "oat field"), anglicised as Gortahork, is a village and townland in the northwest of County Donegal in Ulster, the northern province in Ireland. It is a ''Gaeltacht'' community, where the Irish language is the main language spoken in the area. Along with Falcarragh, it forms part of the district known as Cloughaneely. The nearest town is Falcarragh, 3 km to the north-east. Tomás Mac Donnchadha de Bhaldraithe (born Thomas MacDonagh Waldron; 14 December 1916 – 24 April 1996) was an Irish scholar notable for his work on the Irish language, particularly in the field of lexicography. He is best known for his ''English-Irish Dictionary'', published in 1959. Biography Tomás de Bhaldraithe was born on 14 December 1916 in Ballincurra, County Limerick. He moved to Dublin with his family at the age of five. He was named after Thomas MacDonagh one of the signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, who had been executed after the Easter Rising earlier that year. He adopted the use of the Irish language version of the name in both Irish and English. He received his second-level education at Belvedere College in Dublin. His stance on standard forms and spellings was supported by Éamon de Valera despite opposition from traditionalists in the Department of Education, and the work is widely seen as an important benchmark in Irish scholarship. Niall Ó Dónaill
Niall Ó Dónaill (27 August 1908 – 10 February 1995) was an Irish language lexicographer from Ailt an Eidhinn, Loughanure, County Donegal, Ireland. He was the oldest of the six children of Tarlach ÓDónaill and Éilis NicRuairí from Grial, Loughanure. They had a little land and a few cows. His father, Tarlach, would spend June to November working for a farmer in Scotland and died when Niall was 13 years old. ÓDónaill himself spent summers working in the tunnels in Scotland. During his time at university, he spent his summers teaching at Coláiste Bhríde, Rann na Feirste. Ó Dónaill is most famous for his work as editor of the 1977 Irish-English dictionary , which is still widely used today. He received his education at in Loughanure before gaining a scholarship to St Eunan's College in Letterkenny.
