''Boodle Boodle Boodle'' is a 12" EP by New Zealand band The Clean. Released by Flying Nun Records in 1981, it is one of the more important releases in the Dunedin sound genre. The EP reached number five in the New Zealand music charts, despite being listed in the singles chart (New Zealand has never had a separate EP chart), and stayed in the top 20 for nearly six months. As Flying Nun's first major success, it was largely responsible for the label's continued survival and the start of its growth into New Zealand's most important independent label.Dix, J. The Clean was a New Zealand indie rock band formed in Dunedin in 1978. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. The sound of indie rock has its origins in the New Zealand Dunedin sound of the Chills, Tall Dwarfs, the Clean and the Verlaines, and early 1980s college rock radio stations who would frequently play jangle pop bands like the Smiths and R.E.M. Doug Hood
Douglas Henry Hood (19 October 1953 – 10 September 2024) was a New Zealand music producer and engineer. His career in music began as a member of The Clean, before he moved behind the recording desk working initially alongside Chris Knox to record some of the Flying Nun label's earliest singles. Hood later moved into music promotion, founding the company Looney Tours, which was responsible for bringing artists including Billy Bragg, Violent Femmes, New Order, Public Image Ltd and the Big Day Out festival to New Zealand. Hood was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in the 2023 King's Birthday and Coronation Honours, for services to the music industry.
