Frits Bolkestein
Frederik "Frits" Bolkestein (; 4 April 1933 – 17 February 2025) was a Dutch politician and energy executive who served as Leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) from 1990 to 1998 and List of European Commissioners by nationality, European Commissioner for European Commissioner for Internal Market, Internal Market from 1999 until 2004 under Romano Prodi. Bolkestein worked as a corporate director for Royal Dutch Shell from May 1960 until July 1976 and as a manager for an engineering company in Amsterdam from September 1976 until January 1978. Martijn Bolkestein
Martijn N. Bolkestein (born 13 March 1972) is a Dutch politician who served as a member of the House of Representatives between July 2020 and March 2021. He is a member of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Prior to becoming a member of the House of Representatives, Bolkestein had a career in the private sector at Royal Dutch Shell and a number of consultancy firms. He had also been a municipal councillor in Bloemendaal (2014–2018) and a member of the States of North Holland (2019–2020). Early life and education Bolkestein was born on 13 March 1972 in the North Holland city Haarlem and grew up in the nearby villages Overveen and Bloemendaal. He attended the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem before studying economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam between 1990 and 1997. Gerrit Bolkestein
Gerrit Bolkestein (; 9 October 1871 – 8 September 1956) was a Dutch politician and member of the Free-thinking Democratic League. Bolkestein was the Minister for Education, Art and Science from 1939 until 1945, and was part of the Dutch government-in-exile from 1940. In early 1944 he gave a radio address from London in which he said that after the war he would collect written evidence from Dutch people relating to the oppression they had endured during the Nazi occupation. Among those who heard the broadcast was Anne Frank who had been keeping a diary for two years, while she was in hiding.
