Boby Lapointe
Robert Jean-François Joseph Pascal Lapointe (; 16 April 1922 – 29 June 1972), better known by his stage name Boby Lapointe (), was a French singer, songwriter and actor. As a singer and songwriter, he was noted for his humorous texts, alliterationsSee the titles: ''Aubade à Lydie en do'', ''Ta Katie t'a quitté'', ''Madam' Mado m'a dit'' and plays on words. Biography Lapointe was born in Pézenas, in the Hérault département of southern France. A brilliant pupil, he prepared for the entrance exam to the Centrale (engineering school) and Sup-Aero at Montpellier, but was conscripted into the Youth Building Projects in 1942 and sent to Linz, Austria, in 1943 for compulsory work service. He escaped the same year, and found work as a diver in La Ciotat, a suburb of Marseille, in 1944. In 1946, he married Colette Maclaud. They had two children, Ticha (born 1948) and Jacky (1950). Pézenas (; Languedocien: ''Pesenàs'') is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Name The name "Pézenas" is derived from the older name ''Piscenae'', probably from the Latin word ''piscenis'', meaning fishpond. According to legend, there was a lake full of fish behind the château. Inhabitants of Pézenas are ''Piscenois''. Origins The origins of Pézenas are unclear, but were influenced by three factors: water from the River Peyne, an ancient pre-Roman route from Rodez to Saint-Thibéry and a defensive hill site. Population Sights Pézenas has had a protected area (''Secteur sauvegardé'') since June 1965 - the 14th created by the French Ministry of Culture. The Bibi-binary system for numeric notation (, or abbreviated "") is a hexadecimal numeral system first described in 1968 by singer/mathematician Robert "Boby" Lapointe (1922–1972). At the time, it attracted the attention of André Lichnerowicz, then engaged in studies at the University of Lyon. The notational system directly and logically encodes the binary representations of the digits in a hexadecimal (base sixteen) numeral. In place of the Arabic numerals 0–9 and letters A–F currently used in writing hexadecimal numerals, it presents sixteen newly devised symbols (thus evading any risk of confusion with the decimal system). The graphical and phonetic conception of these symbols is meant to render the use of the Bibi-binary "language" simple and fast.
