Bob Brolly
Robert Joseph "Bob" Brolly Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 4 October) is a Northern Ireland-born broadcaster, singer and entertainer, and long established personality in the West Midlands (region), West Midlands region. He presented a long-running programmes on BBC CWR and BBC Radio WM for several years, where he is probably best known for a weekly Irish music show aired on Sunday afternoons. After leaving the BBC in August 2023, Brolly began presenting his Irish music show on BRMB in Birmingham from October. Life and career in broadcasting Born in Derry, Brolly moved with his family to England when he was fifteen, and settled in Coventry. After training as an engineer, he worked in the automotive industry for several years, at Morris Motors, before holding a number of other jobs that included being chief beer taster for Bass Brewery. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. It comprises five classes of awards across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom#Modern honours, knight if male or a dame (title), dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with the order, but are not members of it. The order was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V, who created the order to recognise 'such persons, male or female, as may have rendered or shall hereafter render important services to Our Empire'. Stuart Linnell
Stuart Linnell MBE BAHons HonMA is a semi-retired UK radio and television broadcaster, particularly well known in Coventry and Warwickshire, and in Northamptonshire. He is Chair of Healthwatch Coventry, and Chair of Coventry Community Digital Radio. After starting his career in his native Birmingham, he was part of the on-air team at the launch of Radio Hallam in Sheffield in 1974. He was also a front-line presenter at the launch of Coventry and Warwickshire’s first local radio station, Coventry based Mercia Sound, in 1980. He worked at Mercia for 15 years, becoming Programme Controller and Managing Director. Later, he spent ten years as a frontline presenter at BBC Radio Northampton until 29 March 2019, when he hosted his final regular daily radio show, having announced that he was then taking semi-retirement. Defibrillator
Defibrillation is a treatment for life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (V-Tach). Defibrillation delivers a dose of electric current (often called a ''counter-shock'') to the heart. Although not fully understood, this process depolarizes a large amount of the heart muscle, ending the arrhythmia. Subsequently, the body's natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart is able to re-establish normal sinus rhythm. A heart which is in asystole (flatline) cannot be restarted by defibrillation; it would be treated only by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and medication, and then by cardioversion or defibrillation if it converts into a shockable rhythm. Sir Derek Alan Higgs (3 April 1944 – 28 April 2008) was an English businessman and merchant banker. He was knighted in 2004. His father, Alan Higgs, was a multimillionaire through property businesses in the Midlands. Early life Sir Derek was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire and was educated at Solihull School, and in 1963 he went to the University of Bristol and graduated in Economics and Accounting in 1966. Majella O'Donnell
Majella O'Donnell (born Majella Roche, 14 April 1960) is an Irish singer, businesswoman and charity campaigner from Thurles, County Tipperary. She came to public attention upon her engagement to singer Daniel O'Donnell. A survivor of cancer, she has raised money for the Irish Cancer Society. Finbar Patrick "Barry" McGuigan MBE (born 28 February 1961) is an Irish boxing promoter and former professional boxer. Born in Clones, County Monaghan, McGuigan was nicknamed ''The Clones Cyclone'' and held the WBA and lineal featherweight titles from 1985 to 1986. At regional level he also held the British and European featherweight titles between 1983 and 1985. In 1985, McGuigan became BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Foster and Allen are a musical duo from Ireland consisting of Mick Foster and Tony Allen. In their 49-year career, they have released over 52 albums, many of which entered the UK Albums Chart. Brendan Shine
Brendan Shine (born 2 June 1947) is an Irish folk and country singer, television presenter and accordion player from Athlone. He has achieved 40 chart singles in Ireland and 5 Irish number one singles, and is best known for his songs about everyday Irish life, such as "Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down" and "Spuds". Career Shine originally started off as a barman. He set up a pub in Baylough in Athlone, across from St. Comans Park, calling it 'Shine's Bar' and it was run by his wife.
