Bnei Yehud ( he, בני יהוד) is an Israeli football club based in Yehud. The club is currently in Liga Gimel Tel Aviv division. History The club was founded in 2007 as Bnei Shefi Yehud, a successor club to Maccabi Yehud, which was founded in 1954 and dissolved at the end of the 2006–07 season. A year later, in 2008, Hapoel Yehud was re-founded as Hapoel Ironi Yehud, and both clubs competed at the 2008–09 season in Liga Gimel Tel Aviv division. In 2009, Bnei Shefi Yehud merged with Hapoel Ironi Yehud, and the merged club became known as Hapoel Bnei Yehud, officially as Bnei Yehud. In the 2011–12 season, Bnei Yehud finished runners-up in Liga Gimel Tel Aviv division and were eventually promoted to Liga Bet, after a vacancy was created in Liga Bet South B division, as F.C. Yehud
Yehud ( he, יְהוּד) is a city in the Central District of Israel that is part of the joint municipality of Yehud-Monosson. In 2007, the city's population stood at approximately 30,000 people (including Neve Monosson – see below). History The history of Yehud traces back thousands of years, with it seeing its first mention in the Bible in . It was later called '' Iudaea'' by the Romans. Liga Gimel
Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. ''League C'') is the fifth and bottom division of Israeli Football League, a position it has held since 2009. From Liga Alef and downwards to this, each league is separated by region as well. History Liga Gimel was first established in 1951 as a third division, below Liga Alef and Liga Bet. In 1955, after designating the first tier as Liga Leumit, Liga Gimel was demoted to the fourth tier. Further demotions followed in 1976, after the second tier Liga Artzit to the fifth tier and in 1999, after the establishment of Liga Ha'Al to the sixth tier. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Liga Artzit was scrapped and Liga Gimel was brought up back to the fifth tier. The 2015–16 Liga Gimel season was the 48th season of fifth tier football in Israel, with 108 clubs competing in 8 regional divisions for promotion to Liga Bet. League matches began on 9 October 2015 and ended on 7 May 2016. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. History During the British Mandate of Palestine period Hapoel had a bitter rivalry with Maccabi and organized its own competitions, with the exception of football, the only sport in which all the organizations played each other. At the time, Hapoel took no part in the ''Eretz Israel Olympic Committee'', which was controlled by Maccabi, and instead sought for international ties with similar workers sports organizations of socialist parties. Therefore, Hapoel became a member of SASI in 1927 and later was a member of CSIT. This was the last season that Liga Gimel was the sixth tier in the Israeli football league system, a position it held since 1998–99. Liga Bet ( he, ליגה ב', lit. ''League B'') is the fourth tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into four regional divisions. History League football started in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef with Liga Bet as the second division. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Bet resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division and Liga Bet demoted to the third division. The 2012–13 Liga Bet season saw Beitar Nahariya (champions of the North A division), Hapoel Beit She'an/Mesilot (champions of the North B division), Hapoel Mahane Yehuda (champions of the South A division) and Maccabi Be'er Ya'akov (champions of the South B division) win the title and promotion to Liga Alef. The clubs ranked 2nd to 5th in each division entered a promotion play-off, at the end of which, in the North section Hapoel Iksal lost against Maccabi Kafr Kanna from Liga Alef North and remained in Liga Bet, while, in the South section, F.C.
