Bluffton is an unincorporated community in Llano County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 75 in 2000. In the 2020 Census, the population was reported to be 180. Bluffton is located at the intersection of RM 2241 and Texas State Highway 261 near the western shore of Lake Buchanan, approximately twelve miles northeast of Llano. Bluffton has a post office, with the ZIP code 78607. Public education in the community of Bluffton is provided by the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District. Buchanan Dam
The Buchanan Dam () is a multiple arch dam located on the Colorado River of Texas. The dam forms Lake Buchanan and was the first dam to be completed in the chain of Texas Highland Lakes. The dam is used for generating hydroelectric power and for flood control and is located about west of Burnet, Texas. History Construction of the then-named George W. Hamilton Dam was started in 1931 by a company controlled by Samuel Insull, but soon ended with the dam less than half completed when his highly leveraged public utility holding company collapsed during the Great Depression. Llano ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Llano County, Texas, United States. As of 2020, the city population was 3,325. Llano has been described as the "deer capital of Texas", with the single highest density of white-tailed deer in the United States. Lake Buchanan () was formed by the construction of Buchanan Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority to provide a water supply for the region and to provide hydroelectric power. Buchanan Dam, a structure over 2 mi (3.2 km) in length, was completed in 1939. Lake Buchanan was the first of the Texas Highland Lakes to be formed, and with of surface water, it is also the largest. State Highway 261 (SH 261) is a Texas state highway running from SH 29 north along the western side of Lake Buchanan to the old location of SH 29 at Bluffton.
