Blanchard Valley Conference (OHSAA)
The Blanchard Valley Conference is an Ohio High School Athletic Association affiliated athletic league located in Hancock County, Ohio, Hancock, Hardin County, Ohio, Hardin, Putnam County, Ohio, Putnam, and Wood County, Ohio, Wood Counties in northwest Ohio. Its name derives from the Blanchard River (Ohio), Blanchard River, which runs through the area in which the schools are located. Findlay High School, Findlay, which is part of the Northern Lakes League, and Cory-Rawson High School, Cory-Rawson, which is a part of the Northwest Central Conference, are the only high schools in Hancock County that are a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association that aren't part of the BVC. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for junior and senior high schools in the state of Ohio. The OHSAA governs eligibility of student athletes, resolves disputes, organizes levels of competition by divisional separation of schools according to attendance population, and conducts state championship competitions in all the OHSAA-sanctioned sports. Membership There are approximately 820 member high schools and 850 more schools in the 7th-8th grade division of the OHSAA. Most public and private high schools in Ohio belong to the OHSAA. Pandora-Gilboa High School is a state technology prototype public high school centered in Pandora, Ohio. It is the only high school and school in the Pandora-Gilboa Local School district. The district serves students from Pandora, Gilboa, and parts of Riley, Blanchard, and Pleasant townships in Putnam County. McComb is a village in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,558 at the time of the 2020 census. The village holds one school district, McComb Local School District. History McComb, originally known as Pleasantville, was laid out in 1847. The village was renamed McComb in 1858. Despite its spelling, McComb is named for Alexander Macomb, who was the second man to serve as Commanding General of the United States Army. Benton Ridge is a village in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 272 at the 2020 census. It is within the boundaries of the Liberty-Benton Local School district. History Benton Ridge was originally called Benton, and under the latter name was laid out in 1835 and named for Thomas Hart Benton (1782–1858), a U.S. Senator from Missouri. Liberty-Benton High School
Liberty-Benton High School is a public high school near Findlay, Ohio, and the only high school in the Liberty-Benton Local School district. It is named for Liberty Township, the village of Benton Ridge, and Eagle Township. Its mascot is the bald eagle, and its school colors are blue and white, accented with red. It is also a member of the Blanchard Valley Conference. In 1995, the school expanded by building a new high school facility about a fourth of a mile from the main building. After the new building was completed, all sports programs except football, baseball, track, and softball were moved to the new building. Football and track continued at the main school until 2003. The Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC) is an OHSAA high school athletic conference that began athletic competition in 2011 with 8 high schools from Northwest Ohio's Ottawa and Wood counties as members. The idea for the league was born in spring 2009 when the Suburban Lakes League was unable to gather enough votes among member schools to make former Northern Lakes League member Rossford its eighth member as a replacement for Lakota.
