Michael Mantha
Michael E. Mantha is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was elected as New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario until his removal from the Ontario NDP caucus on March 31, 2023, after which he sat as an independent. He was first elected in 2011. He represented the riding of Algoma—Manitoulin until his defeat in the 2025 Ontario general election. Algoma—Manitoulin is a provincial electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1934. Between 1986 and 1999, the district consisted of all of Algoma District, Ontario, Algoma District minus two townships south of Hearst, Ontario, Hearst, an area of the southeast, which included Elliot Lake and everything east of it, and the city of Sault Ste. Thessalon, Ontario
Thessalon is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located at the junction of Highway 17 and Highway 129 on the north shore of Lake Huron. It is surrounded by, but not part of, the municipality of Huron Shores, and is part of Algoma District. The main industries are timber and tourism. The town is a popular retirement community. It is the administrative headquarters of the Thessalon First Nation. History The region was first surveyed by Europeans in 1869 to determine if the area could support a viable lumber industry. By the winter of 1870 the beginnings of a lumber camp had taken root and in 1877 a more permanent settlement was established. Thessalon was incorporated in 1892 with Walter Barrett serving as mayor. Nathaniel Dyment of Barrie, the owner of Dyment Co., one of the earliest and most prominent lumber companies in the area, is considered the founding figure of Thessalon. 2025 Ontario General Election
The 2025 Ontario general election was held on February 27, 2025, to elect the 124 members of the 44th Parliament of Ontario. Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Progressive Conservatives were re-elected to a third consecutive majority government, the first time a party has done so since 1959 Ontario general election, 1959. The PCs increased their vote share to 43%, however lost three seats compared to 2022. Dougall Media is a Canadian media company which has several television, radio and publishing holdings in Northwestern Ontario. Television Dougall Media owns CKPR, a CTV affiliate (formerly a CBC affiliate until August 31, 2014), and CHFD, a Global affiliate, both in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
