Bill Dennis
Bill Dennis (born December 9, 1935) is an American former NASCAR driver and rookie of the year in the Winston Cup Series. Racing career Dennis made his debut at age 26 at the 1962 Capital City 300 in the No. 98 and finished 15th. After three part-time seasons, he attempted a full-time schedule in 1970 and he had five Top 10 finishes for Donlavey Racing. He was given the NASCAR Rookie of the Year award in 1970. He competed full-time for the last time during the following season for Donlavey and had ten Top 10 finishes and a pole position. In 1972 he competed for three teams and earned two Top 5 finishes. He competed in a few races until his last start came in the 1981 World 600. Accomplishments Dennis won the Permatex 300 at Daytona three consecutive years (1972–1974), a feat matched only by Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and later surpassed by Tony Stewart, who won four consecutive from 2008 to 2011. The Daytona 300, currently known for sponsorship reasons as the United Rentals 300, is the first race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season, held at Daytona International Speedway. It is held the day before the Daytona 500, and is considered the most prestigious event of the Xfinity Series. Tappahannock, Virginia
Tappahannock is the oldest town in Essex County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,375 at the 2010 census, up from 2,068 at the 2000 census. Located on the Rappahannock River, Tappahannock is the county seat of Essex County. Its name comes from an Algonquian language word ''lappihanne'' (also noted as ''toppehannock''), meaning "Town on the rise and fall of water" or "where the tide ebbs and flows." Arena Racing USA is an indoor motorsports series founded by former NASCAR chassis builder Ricky Dennis, son of 1970 NASCAR Rookie of the Year, Bill Dennis. The league “went dark” after the 2016–2017 season, per their website. History The concept of arena racing started in 1993, when Ricky Dennis was watching a Richmond Renegades hockey game at the Richmond Coliseum. The first attempt at creating the series occurred in 1994, but shut down due to financial troubles. In 2002, a second attempt at the series was created. To assist the series with financial backing, Dennis consulted Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) owner Joe Gibbs, and also added Interstate Batteries president Norm Miller and PACE Entertainment and PACE Motorsports' Gary Becker as investors.
