Bill Dana
William Szathmary (October 5, 1924 June 15, 2017), known as Bill Dana, was an American comedian, actor, and screenwriter. He often appeared on television shows such as The Steve Allen Show, frequently in the guise of a heavily accented Bolivian character named José Jiménez (character), José Jiménez. Dana often portrayed the Jiménez character as an astronaut. Early life Dana was born William Szathmary in Quincy, Massachusetts, the youngest of six children born to Joseph and Dena Szathmary. He was of Hungarian Jewish descent. He took his stage name "Dana" after his mother's first name "Dena" as he felt "Szathmary" was unpronounceable. Dana benefited from the expertise of an older brother, Arthur, who was fluent in several languages and gave his sibling his second entry into foreign languages. José Jiménez was a fictional character created and performed by comedian Bill Dana on ''The Steve Allen Show'' in 1959 and who became increasingly popular during the 1960s. This character introduced himself with the catch phrase: "My name...José Jiménez". ''The Nude Bomb'' (also known as ''The Return of Maxwell Smart'') is a 1980 American spy comedy film based on the 1965–70 television series ''Get Smart''. It stars Don Adams as Maxwell Smart, Agent 86, and was directed by Clive Donner. It was retitled ''The Return of Maxwell Smart'' for television. Co-creators Mel Brooks and Buck Henry had no involvement in the film. Furthermore, Adams and Robert Karvelas (as Larrabee) were the only cast members from the original TV series to reprise their roles for the film.
