Bilateral (album)
''Bilateral'' is the second studio album by Norwegian progressive metal band Leprous. It was recorded in Ivory Shoulder Studios and Juke Joint Studio by Vegard Tveitan and Heidi Solberg Tveitan, and mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studio by Jens Bogren. Additional editing by Ivar Barstad. Art direction and design by Ritxi Ostáriz. Cover painting by Jeff Jordan. All songs published by Magic Art Publishing. In order to define the band's vision about music and what it means to be progressive, guitarist Tor Oddmund Suhrke provided his insight on this matter and other subjects in an interview with the monthly music magazine '' Guitar World''. The album features guest vocals by Ihsahn on the 4th track of the album, "Thorn", and the trumpet on "Thorn" and "Painful Detour" are played by Vegard Sandbukt. Leprous
Leprous is a Norwegian progressive metal band from Notodden, formed in 2001. The group was founded by singer and keyboardist Einar Solberg and guitarist Tor Oddmund Suhrke. After releasing several demos with relatively unstable lineups, the band released their first studio album, ''Tall Poppy Syndrome (album), Tall Poppy Syndrome'', in 2009. They subsequently gained prominence as the live backing band of Ihsahn (who is Solberg's Sibling-in-law, brother-in-law), who, in turn, contributed on several Leprous records as guest singer or producer. Their acclaimed 2011 album ''Bilateral (album), Bilateral'' led to further attention. Jens Peter Daniel Bogren (born 13 November 1979) is a Swedish record producer, mixer and recording engineer specializing in heavy metal music. Oslo
Oslo ( or ; ) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of 1,064,235 in 2022, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. Vegard Sverre Tveitan (born 10 October 1975), better known by his stage name Ihsahn ( ), is a Norwegian musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and composer who is best known for his work with the black metal band Emperor (Norwegian band), Emperor. Tveitan is also a founding member of Thou Shalt Suffer, where he played guitar and keyboard in addition to vocal duties, and Peccatum, a project in collaboration with his wife and fellow musician Starofash, Heidi Solberg Tveitan, also known as Starofash. Jeff Jordan (painter)
Jeff Jordan (born c. 1948) is an American surrealism painter in Eureka, California. He is best known for painting several of The Mars Volta's album covers, including for '' The Bedlam in Goliath''. Early life To avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War and sent to Southeast Asia, Jordan joined the American Air Force in 1966 and was stationed in Iceland before returning to the United States and working as a missile guard at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Career Jordan's interests vary widely and he has explored a wide range of art styles; as such, it took him 25 years to settle on his surrealist style. His work is done by hand with acrylic and oil paints. After years of working as a commercial artist who felt uninspired by his commissions, he teamed up with The Mars Volta for their album '' Amputechture'' (2006). Starofash
Heidi Solberg Tveitan (born 31 May 1972) is a Norwegian musician and singer currently known for her solo project Starofash (also known as Star of Ash). Tveitan was formerly half of the experimental band Peccatum, where she performed vocals, keyboards and synths and wrote the majority of lyrics, under the name Ihriel. She is the sister of Einar Solberg, the singer of Leprous, and the wife of Ihsahn of the black metal band Emperor, with whom she runs the production company Mnemosyne Productions as a music producer and manager. Biography Tveitan was first introduced to music after taking singing and music lessons for many years. In 1998, she formed Peccatum with her husband Ihsahn and brother Lord Pz. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter.
