Ed "Big Ed" Burns
Edward "Big Ed" Burns was an American 19th century confidence man and crime boss. He was born around 1842 in Buffalo, New York. In 1861, he began a bunco career in Chicago, Illinois. He joined his older brothers. Burns worked as a stonemason for some years. He also became a sailor on Lake Michigan, as second mate on a private yacht. His brother John Burns was first mate. About 1866, he strangled a man to death and was sentenced to nine years in Joliet, an Illinois prison. He returned to Chicago after being released in 1875 where he was seriously wounded by a bullet in the back by a man purported to be a friend. In April 1877, he was reported as the leader of a bunco gang on Chicago's South Side, where he used his gang to influence votes for political candidates. In a fight, Burns was shot in the thigh. Edward James Delahanty (October 30, 1867 – July 2, 1903), nicknamed "Big Ed", was an American professional baseball player, who spent his Major League Baseball (MLB) playing career with the Philadelphia Quakers (NL), Philadelphia Quakers, Cleveland Infants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Washington Senators (1901–60), Washington Senators. He was renowned as one of the game's early power hitters, and while primarily a left fielder, also spent time as an infielder. Delahanty won two List of Major League Baseball batting champions, batting titles, batting average (baseball), batted over .400 three times, and has the seventh-highest List of Major League Baseball career batting average leaders, career batting average in MLB history. Ed Reulbach
Edward Marvin "Big Ed" Reulbach (December 1, 1882 – July 17, 1961) was an American pitcher in Major League Baseball. He helped the Chicago Cubs win the 1907 and 1908 World Series. Career Reulbach played college baseball at the University of Notre Dame in 1903 and 1904. He played for the University of Vermont in 1905, accumulating a 4–0 record before signing a contract with the Chicago Cubs in May. Reulbach won at least 17 games in every season from 1905 to 1909. In the 1906 World Series (ultimately won in six games by the Chicago White Sox), Reulbach shone in Game 2 at South Side Park, giving up only one hit, a seventh-inning single to Jiggs Donahue. This rare World Series low-hit game was matched by fellow Cubs pitcher Claude Passeau in 1945 when he threw just the second one-hitter in Series history, surpassed by Don Larsen's perfect game in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series. Edward Lee "Big Ed" Stevens (January 12, 1925 – July 22, 2012) was a first baseman in Major League Baseball who played from 1945 through 1950 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Listed at 6' 1", 190 lb., he batted and threw left-handed. Born in Galveston, Texas, Stevens was originally signed as a 16-year-old by the Dodgers. He played minor league ball in parts of four seasons before joining the big team in 1945. As a rookie, he shared duties at first with incumbent Augie Galan, posting a .274 batting average with four home runs and 29 runs batted in in 55 games. Stevens became a regular in 1946, ending with a .242 and 60 RBI in 103 games, while his 10 home runs were the second-highest on the team, being surpassed only by Pete Reiser (11). Edward Augustine Walsh (May 14, 1881 – May 26, 1959) was an American pitcher and manager (baseball), manager in Major League Baseball, nicknamed "Big Ed". From 1906 to 1912, he had several seasons where he was one of the best pitchers in baseball. Walsh holds the record for lowest career earned run average, 1.82.Coffey (2004), pp. 26–33. Edward Lee Knight (November 2, 1971 – July 8, 2001), best known by his stage name Big Ed the Assassin, often shortened to Big Ed, was an American rapper. Knight was signed to Master P's No Limit Records in 1992 and featured on several of its releases during the 1990s, including those by Master P, C-Murder, Mac and Soulja Slim.
