Bhola Sadar () is an upazila of Bhola District in Barisal Division, Bangladesh. It contains its district headquarters, Bhola. Geography Bhola Sadar is located at . It has a total area of . It is bounded by Mehendiganj, Hizla and Lakshmipur Sadar upazilas on the north, Bauphal and Burhanuddin upazilas on the south, Daulatkhan upazila on the east, Barisal sadar, Mehendiganj and Bakerganj upazilas on the west. Demographics According to the 2011 Census of Bangladesh, Bhola Sadar Upazila had 88,068 households and a population of 430,520. 115,195 (26.76%) were under 10 years of age. Tofail Ahmed (born 22 October 1943) is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a 7-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-1, Bhola-2 and Bakerganj-1 constituencies during 1973–2024. Previously he served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and education Ahmed was born on 22 October 1943 to Bengali Muslim parents Moulvi Azhar Ali and Fatema Begum in the village of Koralia in Bhola Island, then a part of the Backergunge District of the Bengal Presidency in a very poor family. Ahmed studied at the Bhola Government High School until 1960 and then at the Brojomohun College until 1962. He graduated from the University of Dacca with a Master of Science in Soil science. The Bangladesh Jatiya Party (), simply known as BJP, is a centre-right conservative political party in Bangladesh. It is a splinter group of the original Jatiya Party, founded by the former President Hossain Mohammad Ershad. Snap general elections were held in Bangladesh on 12 June 1996. They were called following the controversial February 1996 elections, which were boycotted by the opposition and saw a turnout of just 21%. The result of the snap elections was a victory for the Bangladesh Awami League, which won 146 of the 300 directly elected seats, resulting in its leader Sheikh Hasina becoming Prime Minister. It was the first election victory for the Awami League since 1973 and the party's removal from power in a 1975 coup. Voter turnout was 75%, the highest to date.
