Bertrand Turnbull
Bertrand Turnbull (19 April 1887 – 17 November 1943) was a Wales, Welsh field hockey player from Cardiff, who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. He also played first-class cricket, first-class cricket for Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Gloucestershire in one match. In 1908, he and his cousin Philip Turnbull won a bronze medal as part of the Welsh hockey team that contested the medals with teams from England, Ireland and Scotland. He played as a goalkeeper. His only taste of first-class cricket came in 1911 when he appeared as a wicketkeeper in a match for Gloucestershire against Cambridge University Cricket Club, Cambridge University at Fenner's, Fenner's Cricket Ground, Cambridge. In a low-scoring match, he top-scored with an unbeaten 28 in Gloucestershire's first innings, but was out for seven in the second innings; he made one stumping. Field Hockey At The Summer Olympics
Field hockey made its debut at the Modern Olympic Games as a men's competition in the 1908 Games in London. It was removed from the Olympic schedule of the Summer Olympic Games for the 1924 Paris Games and was reintroduced in the 1928 Amsterdam Games. The Women's field hockey was introduced into the Olympic programme at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) was founded in 1924 and governs the hockey events. Until the 1988 Summer Olympics, the tournaments were invitational, but a qualification system was introduced since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Minor Counties
The National Counties, known as the Minor Counties before 2020, are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket: nineteen representing historic counties of England, plus the Wales National County Cricket Club. Of the 39 historic counties of England, 17 have a first-class county cricket team (the 18th first-class county is Glamorgan in Wales) and 19 participate in the National Counties championship.
