Bernd Reuther
Bernd Reuther (born 1 May 1971) is a German politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2017. Early life and education After graduating from high school in 1990, Reuther completed his military service with the 110 Supply Battalion in Rheine and subsequently studied social sciences at University of Duisburg until 1998. Early career Reuther then worked for a year as a research assistant to Minister of State Werner Hoyer and later as chief of staff to Günter Rexrodt at his parliamentary office in Berlin. From 2003 to 2006, Reuther served as deputy government spokesman of the state government of Saxony-Anhalt under Minister-President Wolfgang Böhmer. The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet (assembly), Diet") is the German Federalism, federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. Wolfgang Böhmer (born 27 January 1936) is a German politician ( CDU) and was the 5th Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt from 16 May 2002 to 19 April 2011. He served as President of the Bundesrat in 2002/03. He formerly worked as a medical doctor. Political career Böhmer was born in Dürrhennersdorf, Saxony, and joined the CDU of East Germany in 1990. 2017 German Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Germany on 24 September 2017 to elect the members of the 19th Bundestag. At stake were at least 598 seats in the Bundestag, as well as 111 overhang and leveling seats determined thereafter. The Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CDU/CSU), led by incumbent chancellor Angela Merkel, won the highest percentage of the vote with 33%, though it suffered a large swing against it of more than 8%. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) achieved its worst result since post-war Germany at 21%.
