Belita
Belita Gladys Lyne Jepson-Turner (21 October 1923 – 18 December 2005), known professionally as Belita, was a British Olympic figure skater, dancer, and film actress. Early years Belita was born at the Garlogs house in Nether Wallop, Hampshire, to Major William Jepson-Turner and wife Gladys Olive Jepson-Turner née Lyne-Stivens. She skated (as Belita Jepson-Turner) for the United Kingdom in the 1936 Winter Olympics, where she was placed 16th in the singles, then her career turned towards Hollywood. She had classical Russian ballet training which carried over into her skating. As a young ballerina, she was partner to Anton Dolin, appearing with the Dolin-Markova Ballet. ''The Hunted'' is a 1948 American film noir crime film starring Preston Foster, Belita, Pierre Watkin and Edna Holland. It was directed by Jack Bernhard. Plot A detective helps send his girlfriend to prison but she claims she was framed. After her release from prison the detective won't leave her alone because he thinks she has now committed a murder. He is still in love with her but continues to hunt her down. There are classic twists and turns. There is a beautiful ice skating scene by (Belita). She was an ice skater in real life. ''Suspense'' is a 1946 American ice-skating-themed film noir directed by Frank Tuttle and written by Philip Yordan. The film stars Barry Sullivan and former Olympic skater Belita. The supporting cast features Albert Dekker, Bonita Granville, and Eugene Pallette (in his final film role). Following their unexpected success with '' Dillinger'', Frank and Maurice King convinced Monogram Pictures to back a higher-budgeted film noir picture written by Yordan. The film was promoted as Monogram's "first million-dollar picture." ''Suspense'' was released by Monogram Pictures on June 15, 1946. ''Ice-Capades'' is a 1941 American comedy film directed by Joseph Santley and starring James Ellison, Phil Silvers, and Barbara Jo Allen. Its score, composed by Cy Feuer, was nominated for the Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. The film's sets were designed by the art director John Victor Mackay. It marked the screen debuts for the ice skaters Belita and Vera Ralston, both of whom went on to star in a number of films at Monogram and Republic respectively. Plot Bob Clemens is a cameraman for newsreels.
