Barva (canton)
Barva is the second Cantons of Costa Rica, canton in the province of Heredia Province, Heredia in Costa Rica. The head city of the canton is the homonymous Barva district. Toponymy The name comes from Barvac or Barvak a cacique of the area around 1569, which in turn might come from either: * From ''New Tlillan-Tlapallan, Tlapallan'' in Nahuatl language, or ''Tla pallapan'', which in Huetar language was Tabaraba or Abaraba, hispanicized as Barba and meaning ''Black River'' or ''Dark River'' as explained by José Fidel Tristán in 1910. * ''Bal'' (town) and ''wac'' (anteater), meaning ''Anteater Town'', according to Luis Ferrero. * ''Bar'' or ''bur'' (bees) with ''ba'' or ''bac'' (tribe), meaning ''Bees Tribe'', as explained by bishop Bernardo Augusto Thiel y Hoffmann in late 19th century, from sources from 1575 and 1599. Cantons Of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is administratively divided into provinces of Costa Rica, seven provinces which are subdivided into 84 canton (administrative division), cantons, and these are further subdivided into districts of Costa Rica, districts. Cantons are the only administrative division in Costa Rica that possess local government in the form of Municipality, municipalities. Each municipality has its own mayor and several representatives, all of them chosen via municipal elections every four years. The original 14 cantons were established in 1848, and the number has risen gradually by the division of existing cantons. Law no. 4366 of 19 August 1969, which outlines the creation of administrative divisions of Costa Rica, states that new cantons may only be created if they have at least one percent of the republic's total population, which was as of the latest estimate (2022). Santa Lucía District
Santa Lucía is the fifth district of the Barva canton, in the Heredia province of Costa Rica. Toponymy The name alludes to Saint Lucia of Syracuse. History 1998 Tornado On September 22, 1998 at 13:30, the district and its surroundings were impacted for 10 minutes by the most damaging tornado recorded in the country, with 179 damaged houses, affecting 600 people. The Greater Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica () is the largest urban agglomeration in the country, comprising areas of high population density surrounding the capital, San José, which geographically corresponds to the Central Valley and extended to include the Guarco Valley, where some of the cantons of the Cartago province are located. Braulio Carrillo National Park is a national park in Heredia Province, Cartago Province, Limón Province and San José Province, in central Costa Rica. It is part of the Central Conservation Area. Heredia, Costa Rica
Heredia () is a district in the Heredia canton of Heredia province, Costa Rica. As the seat of the municipality of Heredia canton, it is awarded the status of city, and by virtue of being the city of the first canton, it is the Province Capital of Heredia province as well.
