FIA Formula 2 Championship
The FIA Formula 2 Championship (F2) is a second-tier single-seater championship organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). Held on road racing, racing circuits, the championship was introduced in 2017, following the rebranding of the long-term Formula One feeder series GP2 Series, GP2. The series' original founders were Flavio Briatore and current managing director Bruno Michel. While it is not necessary to do so, most current F1 drivers have participated in Formula 2 or GP2 before graduating to Formula One. It is the last step on the FIA Global Pathway from Karting to Formula One. Formula 2 is designed to create an ideal training ground for life in Formula One and make racing relatively affordable for the teams. The 2018 Barcelona FIA Formula 2 round was a pair of motor races for Formula 2 cars that took place on 12 and 13 May 2018 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Catalonia, Spain as part of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. It was the third round of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship and ran in support of the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix. The race weekend also saw history making from ART Grand Prix, as the French outfit managed to secure race victories in both races of the weekend to become the first team in modern Formula 2 to do so; with George Russell winning the Feature Race and Jack Aitken winning the Sprint Race respectively. It was the sixth round of the 2024 Formula 2 Championship and was held in support of the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. Classification Qualifying Qualifying was held on 21 June 2024, at 15:55 local time (UTC+2). Notes: * – Joshua Dürksen received a ten-place grid penalty for causing a collision with Zane Maloney at the Feature Race in Monte Carlo. ART Grand Prix is a French motor racing team that competes in formula single-seaters in Europe. In 2012, it competed in the GP2 Series and GP3 Series as Lotus GP to reflect sponsorship from British sports and racing car manufacturer Lotus. The team competed as Lotus ART in 2011.
