Banda (state)
Banda was a princely state centered in Banda, in modern-day Uttar Pradesh, India. It was disestablished due to its participation in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The former region controlled by Banda state had a population of 698,608 people in 1881. History The founder of Banda was Ali Bahadur I. He was a grandson of the Peshwa Bajirao and son of Shamsher Bahadur. Bahadur managed to carve an independent principality for himself. However, the short-lived state ceased to exist after it participated in the unsuccessful Indian Rebellion of 1857. Its last ruler Ali Bahadur II was deposed, and the state was annexed by the British Raj and they appointed a ''taluqdar'' from Awadh to govern the area. A spirit duplicator (also Rexograph and Ditto machine in North America, Banda machine and Fordigraph machine in the U.K. and Australia) is a printing method invented in 1923 by Wilhelm Ritzerfeld, which was used for most of the 20th century. The term "spirit duplicator" refers to the alcohols that were the principal solvents used in generating copies. "A Banda (Ah Bahn-da)" () is a composition by Chico Buarque that was first performed live in 1966 by Buarque and Nara Leão, during the II Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) Festival in TV Record's theater, São Paulo, winning the "Viola de Ouro" award for best composition. "A Banda" brought Buarque immediately into the limelight in Brazil. The song was also released in 1966, on the Brazilian RGE label, as the first track of side 1 in '' Chico Buarque de Hollanda (Vol. 1)'' LP. Banda is a hill that lies in Nakawa Division, within Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Banda also refers to the neighborhoods on the slopes of the hill and between Banda Hill and Kireka, extending all the way to the Kampala-Jinja Highway. The southwestern slopes of the hill are occupied by the neighbourhood known as Kyambogo, and is the location of the campus of Kyambogo University, one of the nine public universities in the country.
