Bad Company (band)
Bad Company were an English rock supergroup formed in London in 1973 by singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke (both ex- Free), guitarist Mick Ralphs (ex- Mott the Hoople) and bassist Boz Burrell (ex-King Crimson). Kirke was the only member to remain throughout the band's entire run, while he and Ralphs were the only members to appear on every studio album. Peter Grant, who managed the rock band Led Zeppelin, also managed Bad Company until 1982. Bad Company enjoyed great success throughout the 1970s. Their first three albums, ''Bad Company'' (1974), '' Straight Shooter'' (1975) and '' Run with the Pack'' (1976), reached the top five in the album charts in both the UK and the US. Boz Burrell
Raymond "Boz" Burrell (1 August 1946 – 21 September 2006) was an English musician. Originally a vocalist and guitarist, Burrell is best known for being the vocalist and bassist of King Crimson from 1971 to 1972 and the original bassist of Bad Company, formed in 1973, with whom he stayed until 1982 before re-joining for a reunion of the original line-up during 1998 to 1999. He died of a heart attack in Spain in 2006, aged 60. Biography Early years Raymond Burrell was born on 1 August 1946 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire; he lived in Saracens Head and Holbeach Hurn. As a teen in the 1950s, he began playing rhythm guitar for the Tea Time 4, a group formed with his school pals Bernie Rudd and Brian Rocky Browne, at the George Farmer School. Bad Company were an English hard rock band from London. Formed in 1973, the group originally featured vocalist, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Paul Rodgers, lead guitarist Mick Ralphs, bassist Boz Burrell and drummer Simon Kirke. The band's final lineup featured constant member Kirke, Rodgers (absent between 1986 and 1998), guitarist Howard Leese (who joined 2008), and bassist Todd Ronning (who joined 2012). Shooting Star (Bad Company Song)
"Shooting Star" is a song written by Paul Rodgers that was first released by Bad Company on their 1975 album '' Straight Shooter''. Although not released as a single, it became a radio staple and has appeared on many of Bad Company's live and compilation albums. Lyrics and music The lyrics of "Shooting Star" tell the story of a boy named Johnny who first heard his first Beatles song, "Love Me Do," and went on to become a rock star, but died after overdosing on whiskey and sleeping pills. The theme was influenced by the deaths of young rock stars as a result of drug addiction, particularly the deaths from overdoses of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and possibly Jimi Hendrix. The album was recorded at Headley Grange with Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio in November 1973, and it was the second album released on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song Records label. Among the songs recorded during the album sessions were two covers of tracks originally by members' previous bands — specifically, Mott the Hoople's "Ready for Love" (recorded while Mick Ralphs was with the band and released on their 1972 album '' All the Young Dudes'') and "Easy on My Soul" (recorded by Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke with Free and released on '' Heartbreaker'' in 1973).
