''BBC Broadcasts'' is a box set by the English rock band Genesis. It was released on 3 March 2023 by EMI Records. Background ''BBC Broadcasts'' was announced on 12 January 2023. The set was curated by keyboardist Tony Banks and their longtime engineer and producer Nick Davis, who had also remastered the band's back catalogue for the ''Genesis 1970–1975'', ''Genesis 1976–1982'', and ''Genesis 1983–1998'' box sets in 2007 and 2008. The album was released in two formats: *5-CD edition featuring performances ranging from their 1970 lineup of Banks/Gabriel/Mayhew/Phillips/Rutherford to the 1998 tour with Ray Wilson as vocalist. *A 3-LP edition collecting highlights from the full set. The album marks the first release of the band's 1980 Lyceum Theatre (which includes the entire "Duke Suite") in an audio-only format; it had previously received a release in video format. Genesis (band)
Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The band's most commercially successful line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. The 1970s line-up, featuring singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, was among the pioneers of progressive rock. The group were formed by five Charterhouse pupils, including Banks, Rutherford, Gabriel, and Anthony Phillips, and named by former Charterhouse pupil Jonathan King, who arranged for them to record several singles and their debut album '' From Genesis to Revelation'' in 1968. After splitting from King, the band began touring, signed with Charisma Records and became a progressive rock band on '' Trespass'' (1970). Watcher Of The Skies
"Watcher of the Skies" is the first track on Genesis' 1972 album ''Foxtrot''. It was also released as the album's only single. Background The title is borrowed from John Keats' 1817 poem " On First Looking into Chapman's Homer": The song was frequently used to open the group's live performances and features as the first track on their 1973 live album ''Genesis Live''. The song opens with a Mellotron intro. According to Tony Banks, the introductory section was intended to take advantage of idiosyncrasies in the tuning of the Mellotron model he was using at the time: The two chords in question are Bmaj7/F# and C#/F#. The Musical Box (song)
"The Musical Box" is a song by English progressive rock band Genesis, which was originally released on their third studio album ''Nursery Cryme'' in 1971. The song is written in the key of F# major. This song is the longest song on the album at ten and a half minutes. Composition Though credited solely to Banks/Collins/Gabriel/Hackett/Rutherford, "The Musical Box" began as an instrumental piece written by Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips called "F#" (later released as "Manipulation" on the Box Set remaster). Steve Hackett
Stephen Richard Hackett (born 12 February 1950) is an English musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who gained prominence as the lead guitarist of the progressive rock band Genesis from 1971 to 1977. Hackett contributed to six Genesis studio albums, three live albums, seven singles and one EP before he left to pursue a solo career. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010. Hackett released his first solo album, ''Voyage of the Acolyte'', while still a member of Genesis in 1975. Philip David Charles Collins (born 30 January 1951) is an English singer, musician, songwriter, record producer and actor. Mike Rutherford
Michael John Cloete Crawford Rutherford (born 2 October 1950) is an English guitarist, bassist and songwriter, co-founder of the rock band Genesis. Rutherford and keyboardist Tony Banks are the group's two continuous members. Initially serving as Genesis's bass guitarist and backing vocalist, Rutherford also performed most of the band's rhythm guitar parts—frequently on twelve-string guitar—in collaboration with successive Genesis lead guitarists Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Anthony Phillips
Anthony Edwin Phillips (born 23 December 1951) is an English musician, songwriter, producer and singer who gained prominence as the original lead guitarist of the rock band Genesis, from 1967 to 1970. He left in July 1970 and learned to play more instruments, before he began a solo career. His departure from Genesis on the eve of the group's breakthrough to mainstream popularity has led him to be popularly dubbed "the Pete Best of progressive rock" (though unlike Best, Phillips left voluntarily).
