B. J. Medical College (BJMC) is a public medical college situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is affiliated to the Gujarat University and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. History Ahmedabad Medical School affiliated with Ahmedabad Civil Hospital was established in 1871. The school had 14 students educating in hospital assistant training. Businessman Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated in 1879 and the school was renamed after him, B. J. Medical School. In 1917, the school was affiliated with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Bombay. By 1946, the school obtained affiliation with the University of Bombay and achieved higher status for itself to become B. J. Medical College, providing Licentiate Certified Physician and Surgeon (LCPS) degree. In 1951, it became affiliated to the Gujarat University for undergraduate courses. Byramjee Jeejeebhoy
Byramjee Jeejeebhoy CSI (1822–1890) was an Indian businessman and philanthropist who founded several education institutions in Bombay. The Byramjee Jeejeebhoy College and the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Parsee Charitable Institution in Charni Road, South Mumbai, Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in Pune and the B. J. Medical College Ahmedabad are four of the notable schools and colleges founded by him. Kirit Premjibhai Solanki (b 1950) is an Indian Politician and medical practitioner (laparoscopic surgeon) who has been elected Member of Parliament of India for three consecutive terms (15th, 16th and 17th Lok Sabha). He represents the Ahmedabad West constituency of Gujarat and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party political party. Rajni Kanabar
Rajni Kanabar (9 November 1940 – 25 June 2019) was an M.B.B.S. doctor and philanthropist belonging to the third generation of an Indian-origin family in Tanzania. He was the founder-chairman of Regency Medical Centre in Dar es Salaam, and the initiator-convenor of the Tanzania Heart Babies Project, which he established in the year 1979. Dr. Janak D. Desai is an Indian urologist (M.S.; M.Ch; FRCS) best known for developing the technique of Ultra-Mini PCNL which involves kidney stone removal by a minimally invasive key-hole technique which reduces the blood loss, pain and hospitalization for a patient suffering from kidney stone. Ketan Desai (urologist)
Dr. Ketan Desai is an Indian urologist from Gujarat. He was head of Medical Council of India in 2001 when he was removed for corruption. Desai began teaching at B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad following his graduation in 1983 and served as head of the urology department from 2005 until his resignation in 2010.
