Ashik
An ashik ( az, aşıq, ; tr, âşık; fa, عاشیق) or ashugh ( hy, աշուղ; ka, აშუღი) is traditionally a singer-poet and bard who accompanies his song—be it a dastan (traditional epic story, also known as '' hikaye'') or a shorter original composition—with a long-necked lute (usually a bağlama or ''saz'') in Turkic (primarily Turkish and Azerbaijani cultures, including Iranian Azerbaijanis) and non-Turkic cultures of South Caucasus (primarily Armenian and Georgian). Aşık Çelebi
Aşık Çelebi ("Gentleman Bard" in Turkish) was the name of Pir Mehmed ("Mehmed the Pir"; 1520–1572), an Ottoman biographer, poet, and translator. Born in Prizren, he served as '' kadi'' (judge) in many towns of the Rumelia. His major work ''Senses of Poets'' (Meşairü'ş-Şuara) of 1568 is of major importance. Life and work Çelebi was born in Prizren,Ottoman Empire. His birth name was Pir Mehmed, and descended from a Turkish seyyid family. After his father's death in 1535 (941 in Ottoman calendar) he departed for Filibe and later to Istanbul. He studied in a medrese in Istanbul under best tutors of his time and received an excellent education. His first civil servant position was that of a court secretary in Bursa. Âşık İbretî
Hıdır Gürel (1920 – 5 November 1976), better known by his pen name Âşık İbretî, was a Turkish ashik, poet and folk singer. His pen name means "the Exemplary Ashik". His poems were written in the tradition of Turkish Alevi folk poetry. Âşık İbretî composed poetry about politics, Islam, Sufism and love. Âşık Mahzuni Şerif mentioned him as "a progressive and revolutionary ministrel". Biography Hıdır Gürel was born in Kırkısrak village of Sarız, Kayseri in 1920 to Ali and Sultan. His ancestry had emigrated from Akçadağ village of Malatya. His mother died when he was 3 years old and his father was married to another woman. He started working with a shoemaker. He was married to his aunt's daughter, his cousin Sultan when he was 18 years old. After military service, he went to Afşin, Kahramanmaraş and learned tailoring in a short time. Âşık Ali İzzet Özkan (1902-1981) was a Turkish ashik and poet. A native of Şarkışla, Özkan became an ashik at a young age, and went to Adana at the age of 22 to compete with other ashiks from Çukurova. Özkan wandered throughout Turkey for many years and composer numerous original poems. Emre Aşık (born 13 December 1973) is a Turkish former international footballer. He played centre-back for several clubs in the Turkish Süper Lig, most notably, Galatasaray. Aşık began his career with Sönmez Filamentspor in the TFF Third League, and also played for Balıkesirspor, Fenerbahçe, İstanbulspor and Beşiktaş; he is one of thirteen footballers who has played for both Galatasaray and Beşiktaş. Ömer Aşık
Ömer Faruk Aşık (; born July 4, 1986) is a Turkish former professional basketball player who last played for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Aşık, standing at 7'2", was sought after by many of the top Euroleague basketball teams at the age of 19. Aşık got his first chance playing professionally with the Turkish Basketball League team Fenerbahçe in 2005–06. After one season with Alpella, Aşık moved back to Fenerbahçe and eventually ended his Turkish club career with them in 2009–10. He gained recognition playing for the Turkish national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, and as the starting center, he helped Turkey win the silver medal.
