Auditor General Of Canada
The Auditor General of Canada is an officer of the Parliament of Canada to aid accountability and oversight by conducting independent financial audits of federal government operations. These audits provide members of parliament with objective evidence to help them examine the government's activities and hold it to account. Karen Hogan was appointed Auditor General of Canada in June 2020. She replaced interim Auditor General of Canada Sylvain Ricard. Office Auditors general are appointed by the governor general in council (cabinet) on advice of the House of Commons and Senate for a non-renewable term of ten years. An auditor general may only be removed for cause by the governor in council with the approval of both the House of Commons and Senate. Michael Ferguson (April 9, 1958 – February 2, 2019), was a Canadian accountant who served as Auditor General of Canada, from November 28, 2011 until his death. Previous to this post, he served as the deputy minister of finance and secretary to the board of management for the province of New Brunswick. Personal information Born in Sackville, New Brunswick on April 9, 1958, he was the son of Winifred Dorothea Norma (Clarke) and Dr. George Gordon Ferguson, an Irish physician who immigrated to Canada in 1954. Sheila Fraser (born September 16, 1950) served as Auditor General of Canada from 2001 to 2011. Early life and education Fraser was born in Dundee, Quebec, Canada to Kenneth Fraser (1917-2005), a Quebec Member of the National Assembly for Huntingdon from 1966 to 1976. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management in 1972. She then became a chartered accountant in 1974 and FCA in 1994. Early life and education Born in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec, Desautels received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the McGill University Desautels Faculty of Management in 1964 and became a Chartered Accountant in 1966.
