Ashfield F.C.
Ashfield Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the Possilpark area of north Glasgow. The club compete in the and wear black and white hooped strips. Formed in 1886, they are based at Saracen Park, which they share with the Glasgow Tigers speedway team; it is located a short distance from Keppoch Park, home of neighbours Glasgow Perthshire. In October 2004, the club lost many historical records and strips as a result of a fire at Saracen Park. In July 2018 former Ashfield player Paul Maxwell took over as manager with former player Ryan Cairley taking over as assistant. Saracen Park
Saracen Park or Ashfield Stadium, also known as Peugeot Ashfield Stadium for sponsorship reasons, is a stadium in Glasgow, Scotland. It is currently shared by Ashfield F.C. for football and the Glasgow Tigers for speedway. It has also previously been a venue for greyhound racing. The ground was originally opened for football in 1937. History Ashfield F.C. opened Saracen Park for junior football in 1937, and have played at the ground since. Located in the Possilpark area of Glasgow, it was named after the adjacent Saracen Foundry. Speedway The first speedway team to race at Ashfield Stadium – as it is known for racing purposes – were the Ashfield Giants between 1949 and 1953. Archie Gray
Archie James Francis Gray (born 12 March 2006) is an English professional footballer currently playing as a midfielder for club Leeds United. Club career Born in Durham, Gray joined Leeds United at under-9 level. He progressed rapidly through the academy, and an agreement had to be met between Leeds United and Gray's school, the St John Fisher Catholic High School in Harrogate, for Gray to miss classes in order to train with the first team, at the request of then-manager Marcelo Bielsa. Thomas Stephen Chalmers (26 December 1935 – 29 April 2019) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre-forward and spent the majority of his career with Celtic. He is the club's fifth-highest goalscorer with 236 goals and is considered one of their greatest players. He is particularly known for scoring the winning goal in the 1967 European Cup Final against Inter Milan. Chalmers later played for Morton and Partick Thistle. Jimmy Blair (footballer, Born 1888)
James Blair (11 May 1888 – 28 February 1964) was a Scottish international footballer, probably most well known for playing in the 1925 FA Cup Final for Cardiff City. His sons, Doug and Jimmy Jr., were also professional footballers. Career Club Blair had played for Scottish junior sides Bonnybridge Thistle and Ashfield before being signed by Clyde in 1908. He helped the club reach two Scottish Cup Finals, attracting interest from several clubs around Britain. Sheffield Wednesday signed him in 1914 for a fee of £2,000. Unfortunately he struggled to ever make a big impact on the team due to various events. Soon after joining the club he was involved in a motorcycle crash that kept him out of the team for a long period and he had made just twenty appearances following his recovery when the Football League was suspended due to the outbreak of World War I. James Davidson Gibson (12 June 1901 – 1 January 1978) was a Scottish footballer who played for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Ashfield, Partick Thistle and Aston Villa. His career spanned 19 years, from 1917 to 1936. Career Gibson played right-half and was regarded as one of the best players in that position at that time. He played almost 200 games for Partick before a transfer to Aston Villa for a then-record fee of £7,500. He made 227 appearances for Aston Villa, during which time they were runners-up in the Football League twice (1930–31 and 1932–33) but were relegated in his final season with the club, 1935–36. Robert Scott Gibson Neill (24 September 1875 – 2 March 1913) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hibernian, Liverpool, Rangers and Scotland. He played at centre half and at wing half.
