Ashfield, Western Australia
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the Town of Bassendean. The suburb is located along the Swan River. The Midland line passes through the suburb and it is serviced by the Ashfield railway station. The housing was originally established as small collection of railway houses near the train line. In the late 1950s early 1960s the area experienced a small boom of housing (400 houses) mostly built by the then State Housing Commission partly funded by the sale of half the properties to individuals. In the late 1960s the State Housing started to reacquire some of those properties. During the late 1990s the suburb underwent a revamp driven by the State Housing Commission, now called the Department of Housing. This occurred in conjunction with the infill sewage project which was created to convert Perth homes from septic tanks and leach drains to mains sewage. The Division of Perth is an Australian electoral division in the state of Western Australia. It is named after Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, where the Division is located. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is also the name of the sand dune system on the Swan Coastal Plain known as the ''Bassendean Dune System''. History In 1829, the land along the Swan River was allotted to British settlers as they arrived in the newly created Swan River Colony. James Henty and his brothers were granted 2,000 acres upon which they grazed their livestock and built a mud-brick homestead. They called their property ''Stoke Farm''. Bayswater is a suburb north-east of the central business district (CBD) of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is just north of the Swan River, within the City of Bayswater local government area. It is predominantly a low-density residential suburb consisting of single-family detached homes. The Midland line is a suburban rail service on the Transperth network in Perth, Western Australia. It runs on the Eastern Railway through Perth's eastern suburbs and connects Midland with Perth. Ashfield Railway Station, Perth
Ashfield is a Transperth railway station located north-east of Perth railway station, Western Australia, on the Midland line. It serves the suburb of Ashfield. History The station opened as a signal box named Cresco in 1930, with passenger facilities provided in 1954. The signal box remained until 1964. Construction on a new 83 bay car park started in February 2020. The new car park was needed because 180 bays were permanently removed from Bayswater station in late 2020 due to the construction of the new Bayswater station. Since Ashfield station is in fare zone 2, and Bayswater station is in fare zone 1, catching the train into the city is more expensive from Ashfield. In order to offset the additional cost for passengers going to Ashfield station instead of Bayswater, the parking at Ashfield station is going to be free during the construction of the new Bayswater station.
