The Piedmont is a plateau region located in the Eastern United States. It is situated between the Atlantic coastal plain and the main Appalachian Mountains, stretching from New York in the north to central Alabama in the south. Thayer Farm Site (31RD10)
The Thayer Farm Site, designated by the Smithsonian trinomial 31RD10, is a prehistoric archaeological site in Randolph County, North Carolina. The site, long known to local collectors for surface level finds, was formally investigated in 1984, and was found to consist of a stratified series of deposits bearing evidence of occupation between about 1200 and 1700 AD. Finds at the site include pottery fragments, projectile points, animal bone, shell fragments, and human bone, the latter indicating the presence of burials. Two acres of the site were donated to the Historic Preservation Foundation for North Carolina in 1985. Sunset Theater
Sunset Theater is a historic movie theater located at Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. It was designed by the architectural firm of Benton & Benton and built in 1929. It is a two-story, parapet roof load-bearing stuccoed brick building in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. It measures approximately 50 feet by 100 feet and has a large open auditorium seating 412. The Randolph County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. It was designed by Wheeler, Runge & Dickey and built in 1908–1909. It is a three-story, Classical Revival style yellow brick building with a hipped roof. It features a powerful Second Empire dome clad in ribbed tile and front portico. Mount Shepherd Pottery Site
The Mount Shepherd Pottery Site is a historic archaeological site on the grounds of the Mount Shepherd Retreat Center, outside Asheboro, North Carolina. The site is that of a late 18th-century pottery, possibly of Moravian origin. The principal feature of the site is a five-flued circular kiln, and it was accompanied by numerous pottery fragments and items, including stove tiles, slipware, earthenware, and smoking pipes. The site has been associated with a Moravian master potter, Gottfried Aust, who one researcher believes ran the site between 1793 and 1799. Wilson Kindley Farm and Kindley Mine is a historic home, farm, gold mine, and national historic district located near Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. The Wilson Kindley House was built around 1873, and is a two-story, single-pile, three-bay, vernacular Greek Revival style brick dwelling. It has a moderately pitched gable roof and overhanging eaves.
