Arya Maitreya Mandala
Arya Maitreya Mandala is a tantric and Buddhist order founded 1933 by Lama Anagarika Govinda. History Lama Anagarika Govinda founded the Arya Maitreya Mandala order on 14 October 1933 and made fourteen Indian scholars members. The order's activities concentrated on India until 1952 Phue-Tuê, a Buddhist monk from Hanoi, and the German author Hans-Ulrich Rieker (1920-1979), set up branches of the order in Eastern Asia and in Europe. During the following decades the Arya Maitreya Mandala established branches in Vietnam, Singapore, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, England, Austria and the United States of America. In Hungary Ernő Hetényi became the leader of the order's Eastern European branch. In 1982 Govinda appointed as his successor Karl-Heinz Gottmann who became the head (Acharya) of the Arya Maitreya Mandala. In 1999 Armin Gottmann became the Acarya. Anagarika Govinda
Anagarika Govinda (born Ernst Lothar Hoffmann, 17 May 1898 – 14 January 1985) was the founder of the order of the Arya Maitreya Mandala and an expositor of Tibetan Buddhism, Abhidharma, and Buddhist meditation as well as other aspects of Buddhism. He was also a painter and poet. Life in Europe Ernst Lothar Hoffmann was born in Waldheim, Germany, the son of a German father and a Bolivian mother. His father was quite well to do and owned a cigar factory. His mother died when he was three years old. While enrolled in the German army during World War I, he caught tuberculosis in Italy and was discharged. He recovered at a sanatorium and then studied philosophy, psychology and archaeology at Freiburg University. He did not finish his studies, but went to live in a German art colony on Capri in Italy, as a painter and poet. Birgit Zotz
Birgit Zotz (born 7 August 1979) is an Austrian writer, cultural anthropologist and an expert on the subject of hospitality management studies. Life Born in Waidhofen an der Thaya, Lower Austria, Zotz grew up in the Waldviertel and in Vienna. From 1993–1997 she attended the Franz Schubert Konservatorium in Vienna, where she studied saxophone. Maitreya
Maitreya (Sanskrit: ) or Metteyya (Pali: ), also Maitreya Buddha or Metteyya Buddha, is regarded as the future Buddha of this world in Buddhist eschatology. As the 5th and final Buddha of the current kalpa, Maitreya's teachings will be aimed at reinstating the dharma, a vital concept in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. Domo Geshe Rinpoche
Domo Geshe Rinpoche Ngawang Kalsang (1866-1936) Domo Geshe Rinpoche is said to have been Shariputra, the Mahadsiddha Gayadhara, Dharmashri, Munijnana, Tönmi Sambhota, King Trisong Detsen, Dromtönpa, Milarepa, Khedrup Rinpoche, and Dragpa Gyaltsen in previous lives. At the age of 8 he received the name Ngawang Kalsang, upon entering Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. After 20 years of study he received the “kachen” degree, Tashi Lhunpo's equivalent of the “geshe” degree. Later, he left the monastery and meditated for 12 years in various caves and retreats in the mountain wilderness of Southern Tibet. Ernő Hetényi (aka Ernest Hetényi 1912–1999) was a Hungarian tibetologist and the leader of the Arya Maitreya Mandala for Eastern Europe. Hans-Ulrich Rieker
Hans-Ulrich Rieker (1 February 1920 – 26 October 1979) was a German actor, author, and leader of the Buddhist religious order Arya Maitreya Mandala in Europe. Life Rieker initially worked as a stage actor in classical theatre roles. Deeply affected by Buddhism, he was ordained a novice monk in the Berlin Buddhist Temple in 1950. As a Buddhist mendicant monk, he then wandered around India on foot, where in 1951 he encountered the German-born Buddhist Lama Anagarika Govinda who became his main teacher. Govinda initiated Rieker into the order he founded in 1933, Arya Maitreya Mandala. In 1952 Rieker founded the European branch of the Arya Maitreya Mandala on behalf of his teacher and accepted and as its first members. He built up the order in Europe and headed this branch for twelve years until progressive deafness caused him to withdraw from public life.
