The Armenian Basketball Federation ( hy, Հայաստանի բասկետբոլի ֆեդերացիա), also known as the Basketball Federation of Armenia (BFA), is the national governing body of basketball in Armenia. The Armenian Basketball Federation operates both the men's national team and the women's national team. History The Armenian Basketball Federation (BFA) was established in 1989 and is headquartered in Yerevan, Armenia. The BFA joined the International Basketball Federation in 1992 and holds full membership in FIBA Europe. Since 2006, Hrachya Rostomyan has been president of the BFA. The BFA manages Armenia's basketball participation in both World and European competitions. In 2016, the BFA organized Armenia's first competition in the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries, with the Armenian team winning the tournament that year. FIBA U18 European Championship
The FIBA U18 European Championship, originally known as the European Championship for Juniors, is a youth men's basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1964 edition. It was held biennially through the 2002 edition. From the 2004 edition onward, it has been held every year. It serves as the qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup, for the FIBA Europe region. The current champions are Spain. The Armenian national basketball team (, ''Hayastani basketboli azgayin havak'akan'') is the national basketball team representing Armenia. The national team is directed by the Basketball Federation of Armenia. Since 2006, the President of the federation is Hrachya Rostomyan. History In December 2015, it was announced that the men's national team would play in its first official tournament ever in Summer 2016, after joining the 2016 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. The team won the tournament by beating Moldova national basketball team in the gold medal game 79–71. Armenia's debut in major competition was in the 2019 World Cup qualification, where despite achieving three wins in six matches, it was eliminated in the first round. In 2018, after qualifying to the EuroBasket 2021 second round of the pre-qualifiers, the team withdrew due to financial constraint.
