Ararat (village), Armenia
Ararat ( hy, Արարատ) is a major village in the Ararat Province of Armenia, located 14 km south of the provincial centre Artashat. In the 2011 census, the village had a population of 7,609. It hosted to the first CYMA – Canadian Youth Mission to Armenia led by Ronald Alepian in 1993. The village is home to the Vazgen Sargsyan House-Museum. Vazgen Sargsyan
Vazgen Zaveni Sargsyan ( hy, Վազգեն Զավենի Սարգսյան, ; 5 March 1959 – 27 October 1999) was an Armenian military commander and politician. He was the first Defence Minister of Armenia from 1991 to 1992 and then from 1995 to 1999. He served as Armenia's Prime Minister from 11 June 1999 until his assassination on 27 October of that year. He rose to prominence during the mass movement for the unification of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia in the late 1980s and led Armenian volunteer groups during the early clashes with Azerbaijani forces. Appointed defence minister by President Levon Ter-Petrosyan soon after Armenia's independence from the Soviet Union in late 1991, Sargsyan became the most prominent commander of Armenian forces during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Ararat Province
Ararat ( hy, Արարատ, ), is a province ('' marz'') of Armenia. Its capital and largest city is the town of Artashat. The province is named after the biblical Mount Ararat. It is bordered by Turkey from the west and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the south. It surrounds the Karki exclave of Nakhichevan which has been controlled by Armenia since its capture in May 1992 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Artashat, Armenia
Artashat ( hy, Արտաշատ), is a town and urban municipal community in Armenia serving as the administrative centre of Ararat Province. It is located on the Araks River in the Ararat plain, 30 km southeast of Yerevan. Artashat was founded in 1945 by the Soviet government of Armenia and named after the nearby ancient city of Artashat. Modern Artashat is on the Yerevan- Nakhchivan-Baku and Nakhchivan-Tabriz railway and on Yerevan-Goris- Stepanakert highway. CYMA - Canadian Youth Mission to Armenia - is a volunteer-run humanitarian and student exchange program in support of Armenia created by Archbishop Hovnan Derderian and Ronald Alepian. Program Description CYMA, the Canadian Youth Mission to Armenia, is a Canadian, volunteer led humanitarian and exchange program focused on redevelopment, community projects, humanitarian aid distribution and student exchange. Aram Sargsyan
Aram Zaveni Sargsyan ( hy, Արամ Զավենի Սարգսյան; 2 January 1961) is an Armenian political figure. He was Prime Minister of Armenia from 3 November 1999 to 2 May 2000. He is the younger brother of Vazgen Sargsyan. In 2001, he founded the Hanrapetutyun Party. He supported the opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the 2008 Armenian presidential election. Sargsyan was elected to the Armenian National Assembly in May 2012 with the Armenian National Congress, but he didn't accept the seat. In the 2017 Armenian parliamentary election, Sargsyan was elected through the proportional list of the Way Out Alliance. Erivan Governorate
The Erivan Governorate was a province ('' guberniya'') of the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire, with its centеr in Erivan (present-day Yerevan). Its area was 27,830 sq. kilometеrs, roughly corresponding to what is now most of central Armenia, the Iğdır Province of Turkey, and the Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan.
