Aoyama, Tokyo
is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of Tokyo, located in the northwest portion of Minato Ward. The area is well known for its international fashion houses, cafes and restaurants. or "North Aoyama" refers to the area on the north side of Aoyama-dori (Aoyama Street) between the Akasaka Palace and Aoyama Gakuin University, while or "South Aoyama" refers to the area to the south of Aoyama-dori and extends to the northern edge of Roppongi, Azabu and Hiroo. During the Edo period, Aoyama was home to various temples, shrines, and samurai residences. Aoyama Gakuin University
is a private Christian university in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Originally established in 1874 by missionaries from the Methodist Episcopal Church, it was reconfigured in its current form in 1949 as part of Aoyama Gakuin. Aoyama Gakuin University had its 140th anniversary in 2014 and is one of Japan's oldest higher education facilities. Aoyama Harp
is a Japanese manufacturer of pedal (concert) harps and folk (lever) harps. Founded as the Aoyama Musical Instrument Manufacturing Company by Jitarō Aoyama in 1897 in Fukui, later generations of the family began the commercial manufacture of folk harps in the 1960s. The manufacture of pedal harps was begun by Kenzo Aoyama, the present head of the company. He began the productions of Grand Concert Harps. The Aoyama harp factory, which was finished in 1992, includes a museum of antique harps as well as a concert hall. ''Aoyama Crows'' is a live album by the Die Like a Dog Quartet: saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, trumpeter Toshinori Kondo, bassist William Parker, and drummer Hamid Drake. It was recorded in November 1999 at the "Total Music Meeting" held at the Podewil in Berlin, and was released in 2002 by FMP. In the album liner notes, Brötzmann recalled the circumstances leading up to the performance: "Got up at four o'clock in the morning, somewhere in Sweden - Hamid was there, as well, we were on tour with our Chicago tentet - the flight was late - got to Berlin in the afternoon - Kondo came in from Tokyo, William from New York, so they both had their share of stress, as well.
