Anya Oko Anya (born 3 January, 1937) is a Nigerian professor of Biology who is distinguished for his work in Parasitology. Early life Anya Oko Anya was born on 3 January 1937 at Abiriba, Abia State of Nigeria. Nigerians or the Nigerian people are citizens of Nigeria or people with ancestry from Nigeria. The name Nigeria was taken from the Niger River running through the country. Parasitology
Parasitology is the study of parasites, their host (biology), hosts, and the relationship between them. Abiriba
Abiriba pronounced E`biriba`/is an ancient Enuda kingdom in Abia State, in southeastern Nigeria, traditionally an Igbo speaking region. It is in the Ohafia local government area. History The origin of the Abiriba people is not as speculative as the origin of other Igbos of southeastern Nigeria. Historical evidence supports the fact that Abiriba people have common ancestry with the Bahumono, Yakor, Ekoi tribes of cross river basin and the people of Arochukwu. At Ekoi, constant disputes between the seven families under Ukpaghiri prompted the clan to move to Ena and finally to Akpa. However, the Abiriba people found it difficult to settle in Akpa due to several issues with neighbours. Nevertheless, the death of Ukpaghiri led to the movement of Mbiriba and his group to Usukpam. Abia State
Abia State ( ig, Ȯha Abia) is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. It takes its name from the acronym for four of the state's most populated regions: Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. Hope Waddell Training Institution
The Hope Waddell Training Institution (HOWAD) is a school in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria founded by missionaries from the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland in 1895. It is named after the Reverend Hope Masterton Waddell. Establishment and growth Mary Slessor was a driving force behind the establishment of HOWAD. The school started in 1895. Slessor landed in Calabar in 1876. The Scottish missionary Mary Mitchell Slessor, who had done much work with the Efik people around Calabar, was a driving force behind the establishment of the Institute. Edinburgh was hesitant about accepting Slessor's demand to establish an industrial training center, but eventually decided to set up an institute on similar lines to its two existing ones in Africa, Lovedale Institute in South Africa and Livingstonia in Nyasaland. Molteno Institute For Research In Parasitology
The Molteno Institute for Research in Parasitology was a biological research institute in the University of Cambridge, UK, situated on the Downing Site and founded in response to an appeal by the Quick Professor by a $150 000 gift from Mr & Mrs Percy Alport Molteno in 1919. When it opened in 1921 it was the first parasite biology institute to be established. Between 1947 and 1964 the MRC ( Medical Research Council) Chemotherapy Research Unit was based in 'the Molteno', but research into parasitology continued alongside. Later, between 1968 and 1987, 'the Molteno' became fully occupied by the MRC as their Biochemical Parasitology Unit and totally dedicated to research into parasitology, although the building was still rented from the University of Cambridge.
