António Silva (actor)
António Maria da Silva (15 August 1886 – 3 March 1971) was a Portuguese actor. He appeared in more than 40 productions over his more than 50 years in acting. Early life António Silva was born to a humble family, one of many sons and daughters of Francisco Constantino Augusto da Silva (born December 19, 1849, Lisbon, Socorro), a frame gilder in Lisbon, who married Amélia das Dores (July 4, 1853, Lisbon, Lumiar,baptised in Lisbon, Lumiar, on August 27, 1849; for her parents' devotion her Godmother was Our Lady of the Pains. – April 4, 1936, Lisbon, São Jorge de Arroios). António Calvário da Paz (born 17 October 1938) is a Portuguese singer and artist from the late 1950s and 1960s. Life and career Born in Lourenço Marques, Portuguese Mozambique, in Africa, still as a child, he settled with his family in Portugal's southern region of Algarve, in Europe, where he was raised. At 18 years old he moved from Portimão to Lisbon in order to continue his formal education and pursue a career as a singer. He represented Portugal in the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest, in Denmark, with the song "Oração" (Portuguese for "prayer"). Fado (; "destiny, fate") is a music genre that can be traced to the 1820s in Lisbon, Portugal, but probably has much earlier origins. Fado historian and scholar Rui Vieira Nery states that "the only reliable information on the history of fado was orally transmitted and goes back to the 1820s and 1830s at best. But even that information was frequently modified within the generational transmission process that made it reach us today." Although the origins are difficult to trace, today fado is commonly regarded as simply a form of song which can be about anything, but must follow a certain traditional structure.
