Antraigues-sur-Volane
Antraigues-sur-Volane (, literally ''Antraigues on Volane''; oc, Entraigas) is a former commune in the Ardèche department in the Auvergne-RhĂ´ne-Alpes region of southern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune VallĂ©es-d'Antraigues-Asperjoc. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Antraiguains'' or ''Antraiguaines'' or alternatively as ''Antraiguais'' or ''Antraiguaises''. Geography Location ''Antraigues-sur-Volane'' is located 5 kilometres north of Vals-les-Bains and 14 km north of Aubenas. The village lies on the edge of the Ardèche CĂ©vennes with the northern boundary ending at the MĂ©zilhac Pass and the Vivarais Mountains. Access to the commune is on the D578 road from Val-les-Bains in the south to the village then continuing north through the heart of the commune to Laviolle in the north. Volane
The Volane () is a French river, a tributary of the Ardèche and a sub-affluent of the RhĂ´ne. Geography It crops at the foot of the suc de l'Areilladou at in MĂ©zilhac and at , nearly at the end of the tĂ©lĂ©ski de l'Areilladou. It runs through (among others) the towns of Antraigues-sur-Volane and Vals-les-Bains. It joins the Ardèche north of LabĂ©gude, at just outside Vals-les-Bains at ''le pont de Vals'' (locality) at less than from the casino. Louis-Alexandre De Launay
Emmanuel Henri Louis Alexandre de Launay, comte d'Antraigues (25 December 1753 Montpellier22 July 1812 Barnes, London) was a French pamphleteer, diplomat, spy and political adventurer during the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Early life At the age of 14, d'Antraigues joined the army. Initially a member of the Garde du Corps (France), Garde du Corps at the Palace of Versailles, he eventually became a Captain (land and air), captain of the Royal Piedmont Cavalry Regiment. Increasingly, though, he became dissatisfied with army life as he became acquainted with several of the leading lights of the Age of Enlightenment. In 1770, he met Jean-Jacques Rousseau and struck up a relationship with him that lasted until Rousseau's death. Later, in 1776, he spent several months at Ferney with Voltaire.
